Also I've got to say that one of the best things I love about mac is the Dock. It's like 40 free icon slots that you can use without cluttering up the desktop. Combine that with the newer macs that let you put folders into the dock and open files through them, and you can very easily access everything you need without ever needing anything on the desktop itself. Of course if you like deathstare wallpapers. :P

There are applications that emulate this for Windows.

Uh...   Wait...  Isn't that just...

Is that like some bizarre icon-only version of a Start menu?  Or, hell, any kind of explorer/file manager?

What on earth do you people need icons for?

Windows lets you add "toolbars" to your taskbar, in XP and Vista there was one by default ("quick launch"), in 7 you'll have to manually re-enable it. I forget the exact procedure for making one (right click taskbar->toolbars?), but it'll show the contents of a(ny) folder as icons. If there're more icons than can be displayed, double-arrow appear and get you a (potentially cascading) menu to show the rest.

(I use a toolbar pointed at the Desktop special pseudo-folder on my Win7 box. Icons hidden on actual desktop.)

In windows 7, they modified the behavior of the taskbar icons to act much more like the dock icons, other than folders, which you need to add manually.

I was more referring to the various programs that are not built into windows, such as Rocketdock.

Yes, but then you can have both rocketdock /and/ the taskbar, for double the icons and double the hatred of co-workers that have to use your computer and don't share your mac enthusiasm and have to live with the damn dock sliding down whenever you move the mouse near the top of the screen.

I had a rough idea of what i wanted to make, but it went from a simple shot of some terrain with the planets in the sky to what it is now with the nebula and stars and such, with experimentations in between.

So, basically derping around. :P
