Drug Tourism
« on: August 31, 2009, 03:55:16 pm »

American Police Officers are worried about drug tourism in Mexico, thanks to new drug decriminalization laws allowing for peole to possess drugs. Portgual has a similar law allowing for possession of drugs, except that Portgual makes it illegal for non-Portguese citizens to possess drugs themselves. Mexico does not have that sort of provision.

Most interesting.  It would definitely bring in Tourism money in the coming years.  A seemingly sound economic ploy by Mexico.

And, it definitely does help law enforcement focus more, financially and in man power on the bigger fishies.  Less hours and money wasted picking up crack-heads and putting them in jail.  Compulsory free room and board by government expense.

Of course, there will be lot of anti-drug people in the US who would try to make laws similar to the anti-pedo tourism laws in reaction.

I have a very liberal outlook regarding the legality drug usage and these laws neither shock nor appall me. Sounds like you can still get fined, just not sent to jail, and you can still get jailed for trafficking, right? That's not all that wild.

Mexico has crappy drugs anyway.

Don't they cut their cocaine with strychnine? That's not good for tourists at all.

Anyway, let's wait and see what happens. Should be intresting.

I've heard of people travelling to 3rd world countries for the sole reason of hiring child prositutes. My guess is that theres some laws about traveling to other countries? I don't know for sure though.

I think he means that the laws would cross borders, and you could still be prosecuted even if the offence didn't happen in America.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can still be prosecuted for stuff like that even if you didn't do it in your home country.  That's what happened to Swirlface.

Doesn't apply to most laws though, apparently.

Yup, the Philippines in particular has this problem.

What. That's freaky.

The youngest age of consent I've heard of is 16, though.

Which countries have it that young.

Age of consent here is 18? That's news to me.
Not that it matters much as this is where the largest amount of human trafficking goes on here.

Also, that weird country is Yemen IWM, still third world there, so they get a bit of lee-way (but it is still waaaay too young). And you must be married to do so.
