Let's Play Battle Moon Wars! A quick explanation.
« on: August 31, 2009, 10:19:31 am »

Good day, everyone. I shall be your host for this LP.

Now, I know what you're thinking. "What the hell is Battle Moon Wars? What's with the engrish?" I shall sum it up as thus.

BMW is a Super Deformed tactical RPG along the lines of Super Robot Wars, and mainly focuses on Type-Moon's Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night visual novels, with a bit of Kara No Kyoukai thrown in for good measure. Now, I won't blame you for not knowing what the hell any of those are, but what it does mean is a lot of anime characters duking it out. If that's not your thing, feel free to go.

Now, to those of you who are interested in this but have no idea what it involves, I'll do my best to explain whatever's going on at the moment, and various character's backgrounds and the like. Keep in mind that as I haven't actually played the games where all these characters come from, my information may not be quite as accurate as it should, although I am up to date on the lore for the most part. To those who ARE well versed in the game's lore, feel free to leap in and correct me on any points I may be wrong on.

I'm going to go make for a perfect run game, with as many secret characters unlocked as possible and all Battle Masteries achieved. I've very nearly beaten the game on my current run ( I think I'm only a battle away from the final boss ), so I know what I'm doing. This is also a run through on the Perfect Edition, which touches up various attack animations and graphics in general, as well as some of the underlying code.

Now, with that disjointed intro out of the way, let's begin!

"Compatibility mode", dude. If he tries running it under "capatability mode" some terrible thing involving elder gods will probably happen.

I was like, ha, this looks like a pretty dumb and boring game. I was so wrong. Gentlemen, I have discovered true fun.

As there were no votes received for either route, I'm going to go with Takumi as our hero. With that out of the way, let's go.

And that concludes this update, folks. Next update I'll fill you in on the battle system and we'll see some action.

Due to various difficulties with video compression and all around frustration, this update will still be in screenshots, which means I will be unable to show off the attack animations. Once I figure out a way to compress the videos in a way that doesn't leave them as a tiny cube with horrendous video quality, I will begin uploading videos of the battles. Until then, we'll get by on screenshots.

With that out of the way, let's begin!

The next update's gonna go over the stat menus and such in the intermission, so there's not gonna be any action over there.

Battle Masteries increase the game's difficulty a notch. If you've unlocked a certain number of them, various secret characters join your crew. Plus, if you've gotten every single one, you unlock two INSANO HARD bonus stages, as well as new combat forms for two of your characters, which you can then use in a second run through the game.

EDIT: Might as well get an update in real quick.

I've changed my mind about user interaction, by the by. Requests to deploy certain characters once we get to the point that the game starts limiting the amount of guys you can send in will be considered, and you can also request certain characters getting upgrades before others.
