Military Workers
« on: August 31, 2009, 07:45:36 am »

Currently, mechanics and siege workers are civillians, meaning that they can't be ordered about and they tend to flee in terror from the enemy.

Given that these are the people who reload the traps and fire the big guns, it is a rather bad thing for them to flee in terror, or go "on break" in the middle of a battle.

It would be neat if we could have some "sub-combat" positions, like having supplydwarfs who bring ammo and food to the soldiers rather than them ditch the battlefield for a quick snack. Medics would also be cool.

Heck, why leave out the regulars?

Just make a "supply the army" job, where haulers bring ammo and food out to designated "watch" locations. That way our archers stay on the job as well.

Malsqueek: You're talking about a quartermaster. Quartermasters have always been a vital part of the military: You can't wage war if you don't have food, munitions, clothing, and other things taken care of. A quartermaster might require an office, containing a cabinet, armor stand, and weapon rack: Each of these contains the tools he needs to take care of his unit. And of course, he'd be a fighting a dwarf too.
