The worker was repeatedly writing the date down, in the manner of people who have to label left over food at a restuarant. Bored, he changed the way he was writing it.

8/30 = .267 a few times.
8-30 = -22
8 dot 30 = 8*30 = 240

Then, a week later, he did it again.

9/6 = 1.5
9-6 = 3
9 dot 6 = 54
At one point, the dot was on the nine, so no one could see it. 96

Me being bored while writing all those goddamned labels on masking tape to put on containers to be filled with salad bar food. Then switching my date writing manner after I made it all the way around the tape roll. I realized that it would be interesting to look at the results. They looked confusing enough, and I remember a list that someone had posted WAAAAY back in VN that just had some forum names on it (I think I was third) and not saying what it meant, causing a ton of speculation.
