So, I just finished my i7 build and overclocked it to 4.0 ghz, and what I realized is that I have a lack of games which actually use it to it's full potential.

That being said, let's share some games with a thousand or more units on the field, explosions, destruction, epic scale. I'd like somewhat decent AI, emphasis on battles over economy building. I want to see glorious last stands and metal flying, fully immersive games you can blow hours on.

Games I own in this category:
ArmA2
Total War games
Mount & Blade (with battle sizer mod)
Total Annihilation (once again through modding)

Games I am looking at/or want:
AI war: Fleet command
IL2 sturmovik/freespace2 type game with more than 32 units?

If you like total Anihilation then pick up Supreme Commander. Its made by the same people, and has the same premise, looks GREAT, TONS of shit blowing up, THOSANDS of units HUGE maps. Maxed out graphics look amazing. I recommend getting the stand alone expansion Forged Alliance.

I can't believe supcom2 is being handled by square enix as well.

Ah well, no other ideas?

I highly recommend AI war. I just bought it myself, loving every minute I can get with it (which has been way more than I should have been getting  ;D )

40k: dawn of war (the first one, the second one is more squad based).

I also second AI War. A bunch of us have been playing it together the past few days. Quite epic. It wont put a strain on your pc as its 2d, and sprite based, but other than that, it kicks alot of ass. Infact, I am playing it now. :D

Well, uhhhh, I'm not worried about strain on my computer. ;)

I haven't tested as obviously I only have the demo, but I think with retail version I can host a game with 30,000+ units as advertised.

Is AI War multithreaded?

I've already looked at TASpring and supcom/2. Ugh I still can't believe Square Enix is on board for SupCom2.

TASpring; a free remake of TA.

Isn't TA freeware nowadays? After all, Cavedog closed down (unfortunatedly)

EDIT: looked into TASpring. It is far more than a remake, you wascally rabbit. It has quite awesome graphics.

Yeah TA spring is quite different from TA depending what mod you play.

I recommend CA via the cadownloader and run a game with the AI "chickens" which spawns waves of giant alien things, each type of which requires different tactics, units and defence towers to defeat.

If you can take the time to learn it, the other I really like is NOTA. It looks a lot like TA but is a very different animal- think of it as a TA mod that couldn't have happened with the TA engine. It also has a defence against waves game mode, called "spacebugs". WInning even on Normal can be quite difficult, you have to time and place defence towers, grunt rushes, and economy expansions just right or you'll get overrun.
