Akinator, the web genious.
« on: August 30, 2009, 09:00:30 pm »

http://en.akinator.com/index.html#

Ok so, its kind of a game. You THINK of a character, a person, video game char, movie actor ANYTHING. And answer some questions, and this thing tries to guess who you were thinking. AND IT DOES! Almost every single time.

It got Robocop, Bruce Campbell, Ryu Hyabusa, Commander Shepperd, Nathan Explosion, A ZERGLING.... Its mind blowing. It will leave you going "WHAT THE FUCK!" every single time.  I have no clue how it does it, its amazing.  And if by some odd chance it doesnt get who you were thinking, you go to a list of other possiblities, and usually its in there. If they arent, you can submit the name and stuff.

Check it out, prepare to be amazed. :E

It failed to guess Johnny Rico for me. :P

But it was pretty close, and I answered 5 questions inoptimally (but close). Nice program.

EDIT: Also didn't get Joe Bauers (from Idiocracy). Wasn't even close. :S

Going to Bear Grylls, the first question after "Is he English?" was "Is he associated with Cars?"
And I knew Top Gear would be there.

And some distance down the line it wondered if he used magic.

...But he got it. Time for some really obscure references.

It's basically a version of the classic game 20 Questions that is for just people and characters.

Didn't get Mickey Mouse (it was on the list of possibilities though), but it got George Washington (though my answers could have very well applied to several early US presidents). Nice.

it got Mickey Mouse for my buddy a little earlier.  And I assume if you answer questions wrong or sub optimally its not going to guess perfect every time. Its quite amazing.

Me and my buddy were discussing how it probably does it, and came to the conclusion that it takes the entire list, and probably cuts it in half with every question, so that it gets down to one and guesses.  For the sub optimals it probably cuts the list down less than that. That is just speculation though, who knows how it does it. >:(

i tried Jesus Christ, this one is tricky and it depends on what you beleive.

If you go right from christian doctrine, it would be able to guess right away. If you go with some alternative beliefs, it mightbe able to guess it. If you actually read the new testament and answered accordingly, then it might not be able to guess.

I got John the Baptist as my answer.

One of the questions is was he the son of God. I said maybe. Jesus never claimed to be the son of God. He called himself the son of man, and emphasized we are all sons of god. Thats in the scripture. But, thats not commonly repeated, and surprisingly few christians actually read the Bible. Go figure.

Pretty awesome thing though!

I hate that little bastard. Once he figures it out he keeps giving you questions that he already knows the answer to. "Has your character met aliens? Is he the head of a group of people? Does he wear a red suit? Does he like to flirt? Has he been into space?"

I think it starts to get confused when the character has been in TV, movies, books, and cartoons. The first time I answered yes to all of those and it gave me some random anime character instead of Kirk.

Couldn't guess Urist or Cacame either :/
Cacame has blond hair right?

On the other hand, he did manage to guess Jiub from Morrowind.

He asked if my character was an adult man. I said yes.

Later he asked if he want to school. Hilarious.

Anyway, it was Speed Racer. He guessed Kenji Endo, from... something. Never heard of 'im.

EDIT: He got 'im on the second try, but I'm disappointed the image was from the new movie rather than the old anime.
