I've played plenty of games as a mage, but none of them feel like they capture the true potential of the magicks.
Anyone know of a game where you can bring the shit to your foes, instead of flinging wimpy little fireballs?

I'd play that, but it has difficulties creating my character and seems to require me to pay them money to get out of the starting city.

Maybe i'll just wait till there is magic implemented in Dwarf Fortress.
In which case, i think we should be able to crumple people into balls/shrink their armor around them, crushing their organs and making a fountain of intestine smoothie spray from their empty eye sockets.

Try Avencast.  Focus on Blood magic.  Then, bring unholy smackdown to your legion of foes with your fiery staff of desecration.

It's very rare to see a spellcasting dude enter the thick of things.  But man, is it ever satisfying to smash your foes around with those powers...

More of a god-game, but I enjoyed the fact that I could crush my opponent's followers using giant boulders in Black and White. And also you could use hand gesture (using mouse) to cast spells!

Still can't get over how awesome Morrowind is.

Yes. Morrowind is a good game in general, and has some fun potion-brewing, spell-flinging, item-enchanting gameplay mechanics.

Morrowind WAS pretty bad-ass, maybe for me the gameplay just limited the feeling of power that i wanted from magic.
Although the sword that enrages/calms a person at the same time is awesome, and being able to make it so I float when I fall, and reflect damage IS awesome.
i'll have to find my cd's...
And get some mods..

Yes yes yes yes yes.

Especially Morrowind, where the potion system was ridiculously broken (and it takes a lot of work to make something more broken than Daggerfall in some regard).  Being able to brew potions that give one god-like power (literally) would probably fit your definition quite nicely.
