Where to get a joystick repaired?
« on: August 30, 2009, 01:23:26 am »

I'll bet someone here can answer this question, if it has an answer at all...

I have an old-as-hell crazy expensive (at the time, still expensive even for how old it is, which says a lot) Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold USB joystick. My friend broke the middle button, just below the hat- I think what happened is the spring came out, since it sends  a signal sometimes but I have to pull it back up. At any rate, I don't see a way to open that part up without damaging it.

So: Who does?

Try taking it to an electronics store.
A certified professional will usually know what they're doing.

The problem with having things fixed by electronics expert - they're not cheap.

If it takes the guy - pessimistically estimated - an hour to fix your joystick, you'll pay for a one-hour repair. I suppose electronics guys are somewhat cheaper than car mechanics, but including taxes you might be better off either buying a new joystick, or trying to find a guy who fixes such things as a hobby so you can pay him with a sixpack.

[I was in a similar situation when X2 Reunion came out, the best space sim / empire building game ever, only it's not easy to learn at first. Sold my broken joystick via Ebay (to someone who was going to try to scam an electronics market into exchanging it, apparently) and got a new one. I very much recommend Logitech btw - I had a problem with a joystick that broke just after its 1-year guarantee ran out, and Logitech's customer support, after the first attempts at fixing the problems did not work, just mailed me a better model. Yay!)
