Yeah, I'm afraid this adventurer's days are pretty much done, get him back to a town and retire him.  He's now pretty much... 'armless.  :P

I'm talking about the bronze colossus. It's supposed to be made entirely of bronze.
But really he's just a softie inside. They all are really. When megabeasts come to your fort you never welcome them inside and give them a hug, do you. You heartless bastards...

bite attacks are a lot better at killing stuff than hands

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

Unofficial slogan of Bay 12 Games.

Standard bite attacks are only 1:2, though. And I don't think humans and dwarves can latch on when they bite.

Give mouths the [GRASP] tag.

Yeah, I know it's a terrible idea.  Your dwarves will fight off enemies with crossbows held in their mouths.  But something about it is too funny to pass up.

I'd say wolf bites are more familiar to the typical adventurer.  I survived a wolf ambush today by fighting until my sword arm was disabled, jumping in a pond to wait out my TIRED, all while leading the 2-3 unharmed wolves in circles around the pond trying to attack me.  Jumped out, picked up my sword, and proceeded to throw it at attackers.  God, I love throwing weapons.  Adventure mode will become insane when non-severing damage isn't insta-healed on traveling.

It'll be hilarious. Like adding grasp to to your upper torso.

I carry around a stack of Iron Bolts just for that purpose. If I get ambushed by wolves near a river, I jump in, swim to the other side, and pitch bolts at them until they're all disabled. Then I cross the river and start praticing my wrestling.

In the distance of one square on the travel map it would get healed anyway.

so wait, do you need swimming skill to get out of water as well? No ramps necessary?

You only need ramps if you have zero/dabbling swimming skill, I think.

So, a broken arm will be magically set, healed, and back to its original strength after traveling a few hours west?  I hope not.  Kills my dreams of dragging a near-death adventure to the nearest town.

I believe the current arrangement stems from the fact that otherwise there's pretty much nothing to do about a severe injury other than "Wait a very long time".

And I don't think humans and dwarves can latch on when they bite.

But they do (or humans at least)!  I've done this personally (don't remember why or how, I think one or both of my arms were broken and I had my combat preferences set to close combat) and while you've latched on, there is an option in the wrestling menu that says "Shake [body part] with mouth" that allows you to tear off chunks from your enemies.  About two battles later I discovered I still had harpy chunks in my mouth.  It was disgusting and awesome!

Edit:  Let me see if I can reproduce this and post a screenshot.  Basically your arms have to be disabled or otherwise occupied, and you have to set attack preferences to close combat, and I think that does it.
