A thread about Axolotls and no mention of their awesome regenerative powers? They are able to regrow their freaking limbs! And not with some creepy useless stump, the replacements are fully functional after some time. How badass is this? So Axolotls all the way  ;)

This is the same with all (or most?) salamanders, the Axolotls are in no way unique among the salamanders for their regenerative powers.

Olms, being creepy slimy bastards with no eyes and stumpy limbs, definitely fit in with Dwarf fortress more than axolotls. I mean, think about what happens to cute animals in DF, such as kittens: They get butchered, dumped in magma, or used as bait for traps.

I think it's clear which one suits DF more.

Some quick research about this makes me believe otherwise but i am in no way an expert.

This thread makes me happy. I has two axolotls, a golden one named Apollo,
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And a black one named Axel,
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'd like to say they are friends but all they do is sit in opposite ends of the tank.
I feed them strips of liver (in the shape of a worm), live worms, baby guppies that are overpopulating our other fish tank, some times tadpoles and chunks of special axolotl food. The are quite vicious with the live food, swallowing it whole without even killing it first.

Is that a D&D reference?

Guh? I didn't know you could keep 'em as pets!

...

Well, if you can have axolotls, then I want an olm!

I want an axolotl for a pet now. Even I can't resist the cute.

(And yes, the pokemon was Wooper. Let there be no doubt. Ironically, Wooper evolves.)

on the topic of oddly specific DF animals VS nonspecific ones (like dogs)

I just find it weird that the game has giant eagles, but no normal sized ones.
If normal eagles don't exist, how do they know what the giant eagle is the giant form of?

If there is sexual dimorphism, can we have male giant cave spiders be much smaller and less cheaty? That way they are only dangerous half the time.

Not only is it not actually advertising anything, it's just copy/pasting word salads about gold, runescape, oil, yuan, and handbags.  It's like a transporter accident combined all the spambots into one shambling mass of online sales.

Yes, that would be awesome. And less deadly.

Also: I want giant praying mantises.
