Well, I want to learn a skill.
« on: August 28, 2009, 07:41:23 pm »

Ok, so I now have nothing to do on the internet anymore.
Nothing to do at home.
Nothing to do at all.

Im on the brink of insanity and i'm actually HOPING for school to start.
Or a fight.
Or something.

Now what I need help with is what to learn.

I already asked a friend to teach me all he knows about making GUI's, Websites, and such. But he's very busy I don't think it'll ever happen.

I'm up to learn ANYTHING. Just give me Ideas and if you can help with links, or actually teach me that'd be great. But please, SOMETHING!

I've taken up sketching. Do you want to take up a hobby that requires finesse and precision, or just something to distract you?

I have quite a few hobbies, but I guess it depends on where you live. I've gotten into game development, but I can't seem to bring myself to finish anything. If nothing else it passes the time, and I learn a lot.

Not only is it not actually advertising anything, it's just copy/pasting word salads about gold, runescape, oil, yuan, and handbags.  It's like a transporter accident combined all the spambots into one shambling mass of online sales.

Programming. Learn C++. There are just so many C++ websites to name. Or website building, learn HTML, then PHP. Fun skills to learn.

If you want to sound smart, learn complex algebra.. that way you could talk about imaginary numbers and how real numbers are really numbers with no imaginary components. Or learn statistics: it's the most useful branch of mathematics in real life, especially in casinos.

Or learn to fight. Arguably, that's a bit difficult on the internet, because you'll have all sort of crap, and never figure out which martial arts is the best.

Or pixel art. Or photoshipping. Both cool skills, and something you can do on your computer. Can't really show off a hand sketch, but very easy to show off a pixelated one.

Learn body language. It's very easy, just grab like Body Language for Dummies. Also something you could find useful, especially when flirting.

On the subject of flirting, it's probably one of the coolest thing you could learn in your spare time. So, I'd suggest The Art of Seduction by Robert Greene. It's as close to a textbook as you can get on the subject, and very well written. If you don't like love, there's always 48 Laws of Power and The 33 Strategies of War by the same author. Ugly cover, laughable titles, but quality reading inside.

Meh, I might do a bit of sketching again, but never really had the time for it. or patience.

Ein's guide to unboredom:

1. Read a really boring book.
2. Go outside for a really long time.
3. Grindfest in as many mmorpgs as possible.
4. ???
5. Play Dwarf Fortress or similarly interesting game.
6. Profit.

As for skills, learn to make and read flowcharts.
They are very fun.

You could always take up writing, although it must be noted that things are often better in your head then on the page/screen, but it must be noted that insanity is often coupled with good writing (especially horror), but obscures your ability to know it said writings are actually good. So insanity might help with it, but it may also make it worse.

Once tried to conquer Earth, and succeeded! Too bad it got really, really boring, really, really fast.

One day, we shall all look back on this, and laugh. Sorry about the face, by the way, and the legs, and the eyes, and the arms. In fact, sorry 'bout the whole body.

Learn how to home-brew beer.

Fun fact : 14 year olds can buy beer kits in the supermarket. I wish I had known that when I was 14.
