I don't know if any of you guys have noticed this before (I certainly haven't) but when you engrave a smoothed ice wall, what you get is a 'sculpted ice wall'. Just another example of the amazing level of detail Toady puts into this game.

It would be awesome if you could have an ice sculpture at your champion's wedding.

Yeah, it would be awesome if ice left behind rocks when mined and you could make it into stuff like sculptures to put into your frozen ice palace.

I sense sarcasm.

Of course, you can only use ice to make constructions and workshops, not furniture or crafts.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Otherwise the AI dwarven civs would try to export ice crafts.

Urist McDesertDweller: So, where are those magma-proof mechanisms you promised us?
Dwarven Liason: I could've sworn I packed them...

Oh, no sarcasm here
I really like the idea of ice statues and stuff (even though I never embarked on an icy location.)

You may also note that a smoothed Ice Wall is actually called a Straight Ice Wall.

Also, digging down on an ice tile with rock directly underneath will first remove the ice and THEN will actually cut through the rock after you've already dug out once. It has to do with multiple rock layers in one z-level, I believe.

...Which, frankly, sounds like an awesome implementable idea.
