Thatks, thats good to know!

I would agree, art of the era usually were bereft of clothing. BTW, the statues add to the artistry, like the struggle of accomplishing such a feat, and hiding it in display for eternity.
Thanks, I get more speific praise like this far to rarly, peaple are uick to say that my work is fantastic, but rarely specify how or why.
Could you explain the bolded part thou, what does hiding has to do with it? Or did you mistype 'holding'?

It was a mistype. BTW, look who's talking.

But I have a feeling you just wanted to call out a mistype.

Wow. I really like your work!

The figures, though, look more like humans than dwarves. Making their heads larger in proportion to the body should help, as well as making the limbs thicker.

That's a problem with the viewing angle and pose really, not the models themselves, I think. Remember that they are female. Aldo, there were a few thechnical issues that made it quite complicated to make thinker limbs than that, it's not like 2d were you can just change a single line.

I imagine it as a giant stone slab with a mosaic of pictures, all creating a giant image of the world.

This:

It only appears to be perfectly smooth, since you aren't looking at it with an electron microscope. After all, for it to contain that many images they must be tiny in size or the thing would be unable to be hauled by a single dwarf.

I dunno. Considering even dwarven children can carry anvils with no problem, I think they can balance Armok's creation on their chins.

Oh, every dwarf does, they always have, sometimes they braid it.  ;)

As for my 3d model, I imagine the dwarves in it as lifezised. (the largest ones that is, not the ones in the recursions)

Armok, that rendering is awesome  :o  Could you take some more images without the DoF-blur?

As for criticism, I'm not big on having the miniPP on each of the four arms. I think it's just that it clashes with the arms, which are, in comparison to the main body, nice and simple. I really like the one on top because it looks like a continuation of the main body's spikiness, and the fact that it's a recursion is subtle, yet easily recognizable if you're looking for it. If you want to stick to the 3 (iirc) sub-images, I'd go with one recursive carving on top and two more engravings on the sides. Alternatively, you could have a recursive carving on the two sides perpendicular to the dwarves, but that would be hard to do without disturbing the silhouette you've got.

Messing with hardcoded stuff is playing with fire. And we all know how dwarves react to fire.

I was planing on doing atleast a few of the encrustings before posting more images, but I got stuck on trying to make a good gypsum shader, and still cant figure it out, I might have to lower my demans on it's realim and go for a "slightly smoky glass" look or something, but I'd prefer not to have to do that. Any idea on how to cheat with the gypsum?

Removing the DoF is easy, I just need to uncheck a checkbox and it renders faster without it, so that's just about the opposite of a problem. I just thought DoF looked more realistic I guess.

The 4 recursions on the arms puzle me a bit, I am unsure what to do with them, I want more then one full mini replica of the entire statue in there, and that was the only spot were I could fit it. It might get better once the arms are  covered in engravings. Pherhaps making them smaller would be a good compromise, but until I'm sure I probably wont go through the minor annoyances associated with fixing it.

That looks great.  I had always just imagined a sortof temporal paradox of impossibility which had collapsed in on itself and gone into other dimensions.

Well, the other option would be to increase the detail on the arms. Give them spikes and faucets like the main pineapple body and the recursions won't look out of place.  8)

e: Another option would be to have the other recursions as engravings. When that model is finalized, you should be able to create a normal map and apply it as a texture to a large engraving surface.

I always figured that either it was some kind of obelisk, or it was shaped like whatever the first image listed was.

Having said that, Armok's rendering looks suitably dorfish. :D

Um, yea. I guess I took on this thing mostly myself in the end really, and I haven't gotten around to continuing it yet. If someone reminds me with PMs every few months something might happen sooner or later. I sorta hit a dead end with some of the decorations and will probably continue once I've gained a few skill levels. by working on other random stuff. The bigest contributing factor is probably that I dont have much time for art at the moment, it varied from week to week and month to month.
