In the words of Sam Vimes, "Just looking at those things makes my arteries go clang." (paraphrased, of course).

Ah, the five food groups. Sugar, salt, cheese, fat and dead cow. Mm-mm.

It's a chicken sandwich between two slices of chicken.  That's it, universe over, everyone go home.

Why am I bumping this thread of mine from over half a year ago?  Because apparently that original story about the Double Down Chicken Sandwich was just a test market or a hoax or something.

The real Super Cheese Chicken Chicken finally launches on April 12.  The original Double Down announcement stopped me in my tracks.  And yet the good Colonel managed to top it.  There's a grilled version for the health conscious.  That's just goddamned poetic.

Some people in this thread, including me, are going to be eating a lot of crow.  And chicken.  And probably crow, given KFC's track record of health-safety standards.

It's part of the fast food counter-revolution, along with Hardee's and a few other chains. You've got McDonald's (and most food in the US, really) getting greener and healthier, which means a reactionary niche opens up. It's blatantly unhealthy food for people who want coronary bypasses as their way to "stick it to the man". Heart disease and diabetes as free speech, if you will. These are the same people who respond to stricter smoking bans by lighting up a Camel Jumbo unfiltered.

(Of course, I loves me some Hardee's Hot Ham 'n Cheese...)

This is like an Andy Warhol anti-movie. They're making a statement here.

No, wait. They're making a bold statement, but that statement is "slowly, we're just going to change out menu until stepping into the restaurant is a death sentence and you'll be aware of this and that still won't stop you."

I get the feeling there's some overarching plan here. Probably involving doomsday devices made out of fried fat.

KFC really knows how to pander to their audience, the day this monster comes out there will be scores of fatties lining up to stuff their fat faces with it like damn pigs.

Fatties will eat anything with enough cholesterol in it.

Truly we are a great nation. (take that third-world)

Well, the only thing I can see wrong with that is that fat people usually don't give a damn about cholesterol. It's:

1. Is it tasty?
2. Is it cheep?
3. Can I buy it in bulk?

And if they're particularly food-savy

4. Will this make me feel good about myself even for a short while?

Despite how much we mock this thing, I'll probably buy it and have a taste. Gentlemen, I am putting my body on the line for both your knowledge and amusement. Now I just need to find a place that sells them close by without my parents knowing about it. I don't think they will take a delayed suicide very lightly.
And before somebody says "What do you mean look around for a place that sells them? KFC sells 'em!" Note that not every KFC will adopt this at once. I'll have to be careful to find this ark of fat.

I'm not too big on super greasy fried chicken. Biting into a crispy strip makes me feel like the grease is seeping directly into my fleshy bits. Even exercise doesn't make that feeling go away.
