Just bought oblivion
« on: August 26, 2009, 08:53:17 pm »

So far, very very fun. The only problem I have is my mouse keeps clicking shit on my desktop, while its supposed to be full screen, I accidentally hit the desktop, then I bring up oblivion again and it locks up really badly. Help?

It's Vista thing. I have it in Morrowind and sometimes others, best solution seems to be just to click out at a good time and go back in, then you should be fine for a while. Obviously, 'a good time' means 'not in a fight'.

Everytime I've done that my oblivion crashed, very sucky. Any other ideas?

It isn't just Vista, same thing happens at my friend's house, and he uses XP.
I think it has to do with the resolution.

Might try this:  Ultimate Elder Scrolls Wiki section on crashes.  3rd one has a method of using the task manager to switch back that may help.

Aside from that, I don't know of why it would be clicking through to the desktop, and haven't been playing in long enough to know the fastest place to look for an answer.

Try running Oblivion in windowed mode. You may lose some FPS, but it won't crash quite as often, as far as switching windows goes. I think. I seem to recall that's how it worked. Not completely sure.

Oh, also, might try updating your video card drivers.  May be a long shot in your case, but is something of a general cure-all with Oblivion.

Right click the executable, go to compatibility, and disable visual themes. That may help.

Be sure to download the unofficial patch from one of the major modding sites I can't remember now. Fixes a ton of crashes like this.

Hmm..

TESIV:O is epic. Ol' Betty outdo themselves everytime.

What I suggest, is to get mods. The best modding site in my opinion is:

TESNexus

You will not regret it.

Ehhh, Oblivion is mostly the Graphical Supperior of Morrowind but that is where it ends.

Uh. No. There's the completely different magic control system, and completely reworked combat system.

It's a massively different game. Completely unlike Morrowind, at all. It's dumber, really, in that it lacks the same amount of lore. You don't get people telling you huge paragraphs of information on various random topics.

But, I digress. Mods. Try Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul.

I was mostly speaking in a Oblivion Vs. Morrowind sort of way.

Also it isn't that different and the similarities are Plot hole tastic
