Traitor in the Midst
« on: August 26, 2009, 08:05:20 pm »

My adventuring party constantly takes casualties and I'm always traveling the world to recruit new soldiers (oneciv has virtually no warriors left as I've lost just about all of them whilst my party battled size modded megabeasts). Anyways, on my newest trip to an elven area to recruit new warriors I arrived with my sole surving maceman. I hired a few archers then suddenly combat announcements started crossing my screen. My maceman was killed, beaten and shot to death by one of my new archers and one of my retired adventurers. The archer then challenged me to be battle and fired an arrow at me. I hired my old adventurer and was planning on attacking the offending elf but then realized that might turn the entire civ against me and was looking forward to perhaps accepting quests from them when I'd purged the other area of dragons and titans. I managed to hide behind a tree and sneak and then Travel out of there. Anyways, first ambush, I'm fighting wolves when I start being pelted with arrows. One of my new elven archers is politely watching me slaughter animals but the other one is shooting at me! If I kill him it'll turn the civ against me! Anyways, as he is still part of my party he follows me everywhere I go. I'm going to have to bring this party to a megabeast, let them engage it, and run for my life and let the beast slaughter the bunch. Anyone else ever had an enemy as part of their party?

Sounds like the AI got upgraded by itself to make murder possible!

I think its actually just a strange kind of diplomacy/civ bug as opposed to an a.i thing but its still pretty cool.

Make him regret that. And I mean REGRET.

Anyways, I dealt with it. First I tried to set the elf archer on fire while he stood still to shoot at me and it almost worked but then he ran out of arrows and ran out of the fire and after me. I had to run away to prevent a counter-attack from the rest of my party as the former adventurer I had picked up was probably stronger than me. I took us all to a megabeast I had lost many party members to before and he proceeded to set all of my party members but me on fire. Amazingly, the old adventurer in my party, whilst still on fire, managed to kill the megabeast before burning to death. Anyways, from now on, I'll avoid combining humans and elves in my parties.

That happened to me with a wandering elf peasant once. But she was afraid of me, so as soon as I came out of Travel she would start to run away...

Rather than having them directly force you to mine adamantine, I would suggest that they give you strange moods that require adamantine. "Dig out the adamantine or Urist here goes insane and dies" is suitably vicious.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)

You know the old saying. Elves are only good for two things. Dying and porn.

The solution is simple: kill the entire elven civ to ensure they'll never cause problems again. Use an elf skull, just to be particularly careful.

REASONING BEHIND THIS PROBLEM

The maceman was an enemy of the elven civ.
Back in a legends war, he killed elves.
Player wasn't from the same civ as the maceman, so the elves didn't kill him.

FUN THING TO DO

find two warring civs.
Make an adventurer from both and retire them in a neutral town.
Make a third adventurer, and wait until the enemies find each other.

THE ENTIRE TOWN STARTS RAMPANTLY MURDERING PEOPLE!

(The adventurer who attacks first is marked as a enemy of the town, BUT ALSO BELONGS TO THE TOWN, so the killer or attacker of him gets attacked by other civ members, ect.)

Fun way to burn a few minutes.
