I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Humans are not called umans because of the U, but because of a reference to older games.
In Warhammer, gobbos call humans umans, because of their goblin accent.

I think of the nobles as dwarves and the working class as dorfs, in a similar way to that where my countrymen tend to think of the working class as people and the upper classes as 'posh bastards'.

I'm talking about the bronze colossus. It's supposed to be made entirely of bronze.
But really he's just a softie inside. They all are really. When megabeasts come to your fort you never welcome them inside and give them a hug, do you. You heartless bastards...

I always thought of it as an affectionate term.  "Ooooh, who's the cutest dorfyworfy? Did you just bite off that meanie baron's leg?  Yes you did, yes you did."

I tend to use dorf as a verb. A noun too, but verbs are just more fun.

"I'm going to do dorf now, see you later."

"Oh man, that gobbo just got dorfed. Lookit the gore fly..."

"Get out of bed and go dorf that wall, Urist McLazy."

Or just the sound of a fortress running along at a steady pace. Dorfdorfdorf, like stumpy little cogs in my glorious machine.

How about an adjective? Saying "that tower is dorf!" brings a certain image to mind...

The hoot-mans?  The huge-glands?

Anyways, if I were a dwarf, I'd probably see 'dorf' as a term like 'nigga'.  If one of them poncy elves were to use it, I'd kill him.  But if a dwarf says 'dorf powa!'  then you know he's all right.

So, are dorfs going to eventually cover themselves in Dimple Dye, live inside tower caps, and only have one female populate the entire species or what?

A Dwarf is a stout, strong creature with a boisterous beard. Their culture delves great fortresses and seeks the riches hidden under the mountains. They favor towards having a communal goodwill, a strong sense of duty, and their women are privileged very similar to their men, although they are distrustful of outsiders.

A Dorf spends months designing traps to dump caravans in pit of lava for fun. Especially elves. Their greed is such that they will run to retrieve socks from a heated field of battle. Their nobles do no work and demand items made of rare metals. When this happens to nobles get dumped in lava. They can become masterful artists at ease, but they often choose to draw cheese things with pictures of themselves (with pictures of themselves, of themselves, of themselves...). Every great artistic work menaces with spikes of pig tail cloth and hanging rings of obsidian. Their crossbows have technology that detonates the arrowhead 0.2 seconds before impacting the target, spraying them with shrapnel. They are also renowned (if careless) workers with pumps.

I don't find dorf insulting, or Humie, gobbo, they're just nick names, its not like using the word Negros for black people, dorf and dwarf sounds the same anyway.

Elves are ALWAYS poncy bastards or something in that vein. Sometimes "frenchie" is used for elves, because they have the same social characteristics.

I'm thinking of that old Sega game, Megalomania. They were coloured green, blue, red ad yellow, lived inside towers and only had one lady in each tower for procreation.
