Why lock it ? mayhap people might see the destress call and throw in some more games.

Apart from this forum, do you have any suggestions of a forum i could go on and ask a list with games that have these features, that specialise in gaming history?

the problem is,

Many gamers nowadays care more for shiny graphics and PewPewPew moreso than Cool new features.

if anyone on the forum is interested, i'm pretty sure we could MAKE a game such as this, source engine would be preferable.

i know it'd be a big undertaking, but it's your best bet if you want those sort of features.

( i can do maps)

I recall the x-com series allowing you to pickup fallen, still living comrades, although I think that was a pretty questionable tactic considering you were better off killing everyone in the vincinity and then attempting to heal the fallen.

Silent Storm (and SS engine utilizing games) also allowed you to have characters pickup fallen characters and carry them on their back. Although again, the use was pretty questionable considering it took a LOT to kill one of your soldiers (they wouldn't die unless damaged further when on the ground) and enemies would never aim at those already fallen. It was really only useful when kidnapping some enemy officer as a mission objective.

Also, there was this one obscure, supposedly not very good, game called Combat Medic. Although whether or not it featured dragging, I don't know as I've never played it, but there is the possibility. All I know is you were supposed to heal wounded comrades on the battlefield.

Honestly, the best use for something like this would be a realistic turn based tactics game. Something like silent storm but more realistic.

In harder difficulty levels, if you didn't carry your fallen buddies to the map exit, they would be lost forever.

All of this is extremely hilarious when you realise that IWM is a regular on the IRC channel, which is quite possible the single most concentrated place of man-on-man innuendo and FREE LOVE on the entire internet. It's the beards, you see. Something about the beards.

Thread resumed! To be helpful, I can't really think of any games that do have such a mechanic in place. Of course the natural place to start looking is in various war games, which have all been covered fairly well here.

In my opinion there are these essential features that keep a dragging game fun:

-would prefferably need to have multiplayer (coop)
-you could create characters with diffrent stats and such, and keep leveling throughout completing a mission
-if you die, you are dead. (or just uncheck perma death mode)
-the level of reward is bassed on the level of danger, so you could play it safe, but also play against your odds. (say if you save an computer controlled soldier, or a player and put him to safety, that would give you a lot of exp)
-The game must have other sources of funness otherwise these features alone won't last
-it's all about balancing

these were some rough ideas but i think the upper stimulate the need to save a buddy or be saved by someone if you get shot, if you are found in a critical state.

I think it might be an interesting system to simply remove the respawn option.  If you're downed, you'll need someone to pick you up and take you back to an appropriate healthcare station to patch you up.

Medics could offer certain first aid bonuses in the field for wounded-but-not-downed soldiers, and could be less encumbered by the weight of a body.


I'd also like to see more of this kind of ability in games.  You don't often see actual teamplay events like this in games, mostly because most of the action gamers are greedy selfish pricks who would only even consider being remotely related to a group effort if it meant they got tons of points for it.  I happen to loathe stuff like that, by the way.
