Looking for a map. Simple requirements.
« on: August 25, 2009, 05:51:11 pm »

Hi all. I've been generating a bunch of maps using the awesome UltraFinder tool that GFXiNXS created. Though I've generated some solid maps, none seem to really fit the bill for what I want:

- Bauxite
- Flux
- Magma Pipe
- Bottomless Pit
- Magnetite
- Running Water of some kind.
- NO aquifer.

I can get the Pit, Pipe, and Water easily enough. But typically the maps I generate are big slabs of granite, orthoclase and microcline. Good gems and such, but only about half contain flux, and it's limited. Of those, I can usually find either bauxite OR magnetite, but never both.

I've tried downloading some of the various maps I've seen around here, but they all either have aquifers or the bauxite advertised isn't actually there in my version. (I use Mayday with the economic stone mod, which may affect things.)

I'm not picky about embark size. 3x3 to 7x7 should suffice. Anyway, thanks for any help guys.

I don't have the map you speak of (though I do have one that fits the description if you scratch the bottomless pit), but I can tell you that in my experience the kind of stone layers you want to be looking for to get magnetite and bauxite are drawn in white on the embark screen. Where layers like Ryolite appear in (dark) grey, layers of the Sedimentary variety (which you'll want for bauxite and magnetite and limonite and bituminous coal and lignite and ...) tend to be drawn in bright(er) white.

Unfortunately those layers tend to be in lush forest regions, not in mountainous ones. So I think your best bet would be to hunt for an embark site that contains both a forest and a mountain biome, and then hope to find a bottomless pit somewhere nearby.

Though I might be entirely wrong here, in which case you'll find out because all the guru people will start to flame me below this post. :(

This is a stack of 9 finely-prepared Prickle berry stew. The ingredients are finely minced Prickle berry, finely minced Prickle berry and superiorly minced Prickle berry.

No, you're not wrong, at least I don't think so, as that was my understanding as well. I have just had a hard time actually finding a spot that complies.

Thanks!

Dakoth:

I got your map to gen properly using d11 Vanilla with just the Cat Mouth fix. In d11 Mayday it was turning all the bauxite and magnetite and useful stuff into microcline! Nasty blue crap! :P

Yuhhaur:

Your map did not even come close to resembling the screenshots when genned in d11 Vanilla w/ Cat Mouth. Not sure what happened! In Mayday d11 Pack it generated, but the bauxite and magnetite was missing like it always is with Mayday, transformed into useless microcline instead. Do you have any mods or anything that would have affected worldgen?

Yikes! I guess I should've mentioned that I fixed the cat mouth. Apologies. I don't use Mayday's graphics because I'm used to the ASCII and I'm kind of a purist. Frankly, a large part of it is laziness, too...

Yeah I ended up installing the creature graphics from Mayday but replacing the basic tileset with a more smooth 16x16 ASCII set. The Mayday tileset has way too many icons stuffing everything up.

Indeed I am genning it with DFG17 of mayday pack of 40d11. After trying with vanilla 40d11 I found no sign of the bauxite and magnetite. So that explain Mayday had some magic in his mod to turn the blue into red. (Is he Liverpool fan instead of Chelsea?)
