That's not Japanese, that's Simplified Chinese.

It said, (translated line by line)

Notice

Connection failed, please try again later.

OK

OT: For Japanese you should not see a lot of block characters, you'd see much less of them, with a lot of simplistic characters with lots of curves.

This is Japanese:

This is Chinese (the right-most line is the modern script):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The similar characters in Japanese are borrowed from Chinese... many of them look the same but with completely different meanings.

e.g. 湯 means "soup" in Chinese, but "bath water" in Japanese.

But they all look like tiny pictures of wriggling lines to you I guess. ;)

Yes, Chinese characters are logograms, but they are classified into six subtypes. Those in the picture above are all of the type  Pictograms (form imitation).

Ow. My brain, which is conditioned to accept phonetic words (latin + arabic) is now hurts.

Very.

On a side note, the picture is trash-looking with the darkling theme.

I grabbed those images from a Google image search... both are GIF files, and the Chinese one has transparent background.

Works fine with the default light blue theme.

For real. There's no way I'm ever even trying to learn Chinese. Of course it helps that I have no interest. Alphabets are what's up.

But I want to know Japanese, eh.

Edit: Also, Austronesians have their own logograms too! (BUT ARE HERESY AND MUST BE BURNED!)

Technically, you can learn Japanese without Kanji - you just can't read most of it.

Everything can be written in hiragana/katakana, but there are so many homonyms that it's rare to write much without using Kanji.

Yesh, I know. I am now re-learning hiragana.
Kanji... is... hell. I need furigana to read them.

I just hate how it's more efficient to write kana, but kanji is still used extensively.

Versus
ようび

Maybe they think it's cool... just like how they continue to use English regardless of how many embarrassing errors and jokes they are creating.

But then again, maybe not. I heard kanji is taught in school in Japan and students are required to use it.

Or like how we continue to get Chinese tattoos and lettering on on bodies and clothes despite the hilarious failures.

Do you have any idea how Goddamn painful it is to learn this language? I'm giving up and trying German. At least I can write German.
