Iran claims we orchestrated some sort of conspiracy to overthrow the Iranian government and turn it into an outpost of the British Empire or something like that.

And they're right!  Several times, actually.  Not to mention the time that Britain and the United States helped overthrow the democratic government to give all the power to the Pahlavi monarchy.  For oil, of course.  It's that little bit which helped lead to the 1979 revolution, incidentally.

That was just a poor joke really but sometimes I do wonder why the west even bothers with countries like Afghanistan for security purposes when we could just use the military budget to improve airport security and the like.

That would be awesome and work wonderfully. Like, strengthen control in airport lines, make people take off their shoes and register every single bit of underwear in their luggage. Cavity searches for everyone! Forbid any kind of liquid in hand luggage because it could be a bioweapon! That would definitely improve airport security, I wonder why nobody has thought about it...

About the boycott... seriously, who the hell cares? It's not like you guys have any money left. The only way I can see anyone boycotting Scotland is by threatening to sell the whisky back to them. "Oooh, look at me, I'm so angry at the banks, that I'm going to stop paying them for my house... not because I can't afford it, no siree. It's a boycott, yeah." Same thing with Scotland. Let's face it: nobody can afford Scotch Whisky anymore. Calling it a boycott is just a way to save face. I don't think anybody in Scotland will notice.

I was going ot mention that the daily mail was a terrible source for this... but i figured my post was going to upset too many people so i decided to leave it out.

The problem with whats happening in the middle east is that no-one helping to provide proper infrastructure to these countries. All that happens is we (both british and american armies) go in, kill, and then get out. It makes them look amazing and all powerful and they've sorted all the problems. No.

The truth is, is that once you go in, and destroy the biggest power, theres going to be a vacuum. This power vacuum attracts alot of unwanted attention, such as the horrific suicide bombings going on in Iraq and Afganistan atm.

So, the solution? Stay there and be that power to take up that vacuum. Stay there and help the people become enlightened. Help the country build a proper infrastructer of education, law, and morals. And it has to be done in a way that seems like the people are doing it themselves, or else it'll just be super duper country productive.
