I'm not sure what you mean by sounds off, but I recommend trying to find a house. It'd be easier than just wandering around in the open.

I humbly suggest we don't interact with the zombies in any way, primarily by not following the bloodstains.

Now, urban environments are extremely unsafe, considering the level of population and thus zombies. This isn't even taking into account the insane individuals that may inhabit any building we try and enter. More to the point, this is America, many are likely to have guns and will not attempt to discriminate, considering the implications if they didn't fire immediately (death by mauling, ect.). Not to mention the fact that widespread panic would cause looting, destruction and so forth, leaving many places difficult to access at best. This leaves us open to both zombies and snipers. So our best bet is to head to a location that is
a) Devoid of population
or, preferably,
b) A base under known military control. Assuming they're neutral, if we offer to provide help they'll probably accept and give us a gun.

Therefore I suggest that the first thing we do is head north. When daylight comes, we make for the countryside. From there, we can plan ahead.

Seems reasonable. Or at least, in the daylight, people will not try and shoot us on sight, if they weren't going to anyway.
