In 28 days I go to college for the first time. Except I have 2 classes a day. And I had to fight to get the classes. I hope I don't have homework the first day.

What college are you going to that doesn't start until the end of September?  When does the semester end?

Maybe he's foreign. My classes started in June, and I'm getting my midterm break at the end of September.

My first day in elementary school(s) was hell. No friends, xenophobic children, flipping between a bunch of different education systems in the USA and Malaysia. Teachers were damn stupid too.. my 'science' teacher taught me that water was made of 1 hydrogen atom and 2 oxygen atoms  ::)

My first day in secondary school was a bit better. The teachers were far more sane. Kids matured a little. There was also that that time when female hormones spiked, and so did my looks, so I've had girls fight over me for my first three years in secondary school. Last two years were mundane.. kept getting OK grades, my best friends moved to better schools, etc.

First day of diploma was cool. Disappointing, I guess. I expected college to be full of uber-smart people, but they were on average only slightly smarter than in school. The funny part is that there's at least 20 people from my school who are in ivy league universities all over the world.. which is a ridiculously high rate for a standard public school.

First day of degree.. I transferred to one of the top engineering schools in Australia and got wtfpwned. Grades don't matter. I graduated with first class honours, higher than 95% of everyone else. What you fucking learn in university matters! Remember kids, when you learn "basics" in the first few years of college, they matter. Fourier transforms, derivatives, programming skills.... all that will come back to bite you in the ass when you're nearing the final years. Not so bad with liberal arts degrees, but vital in engineering or science programs.

tl;dr: Grades don't matter, what you get out of it does.

BTW, Zironic, I heard that UC Davis is about as painful as UNSW. First day homework is the least of your worries ;)

On Picnic Day, I met a german fluid mechanic's professor, who went on to tell me how much better engineering undergraduate is at Davis compared to other places, such as Berkeley. He then talked about how a masters at Berkeley is recommended, Citing his own educational path.

ok hang on, something isn't quite right there. First of all, you're doing IGCSE and A-Levels? They're two different exams usually with a two year gap between them, somehow it doesn't make much sense for you to do both at the same time. Perhaps you mean that by doing an IGCSE you can progress onto A-Levels but before you do any A-Levels, you have to do AS-Levels.

Maybe he's just, like...

Incredibly hardcore.

If that's the case, he must be privately educated. He would be doing IGCSEs about 3 years early and A-Levels 5 years early and at the same time. Given that most people struggle with the workload for A-Levels alone, that's hyper-productive.

Privately educated like... home-school?

All of you who have started already are lucky. I have to wait until August 31st to return to college, but at least classes start the very next day. Gonna be my sophomore year, and I'm going to be one of the few left in my program.

See, I'm a GSR (Gaming, Simulation, and Robotics, which is just a fancy Computer Science) and I hated everyone in my course. They were all meme-spewing idiots who couldn't put forth the effort to code simple programs without cheating off of eachother. Then the school introduced the "Game Design" major, and upon hearing it required no effort, and no coding, they all flocked to it! Leaving me to pursue Computer Science in peace. There will literally be about 6 people in any given class I take (except for Public Speaking, a general requirement)

CANNOT wait for this year!
