I actually quite like the stock music. I would be sad if Toady changed it. It is peaceful but with those undertones that you can just feel, depending on what's happening.

Setting up your fortress it's like "Yeah, lets get this show on the road! But be careful, you can still die this early in the game like a NOOB. >:I"
Then things are going swell and it's peaceful BGM.
Then something hits the fan and as either you are overrun or die out on the inside, it has almost this haunting feel to it, like watching a horror film with unfitting music which is unnerving.

So yes, I like the standard music and why I am setting it as my ringtone.

THe other day, listening to Radio 4 (<=UK), I thought "If I were ever on Desert Island Discs, I should choose the DF theme."  That's despite having had the sound off for a large period of time, just so I could listen to stuff like the radio.

These days, I often play DF with the sound on and running, at the same time listening to various recorded radio programmes playing at 1.5 speed, having so much I want to listen to (and 2x speed introducing difficulties understanding certain accents, that are still Okish at 1.5x), and so have the ambience of the DF default soundtrack while listening to the likes of politicians spouting their nonsense on Any Questions at a higher tempo.  (Though not at a higher frequency, because essentially the player just compresses the cues for the frequency distributions being played, not the waveforms themselves.  Although I'm sometimes tempted to make them go all "Pinky And Perky" as well by applying additional filters.)

(Erm, yes, a Radio 4 listener here.  Although I doubt that means anything (or at least the same thing) to the larger worldwide community.)

Moria tracks from the LoTR Soundtrack is a good track but i dont think it will fit DF.

How about a band that makes song based of Lord of the Rings? How about a song that they made about the beginning of Moria?

The default guitar track is so nice. Wish there was more than just that one track. I suppose some lazy spaghetti western or desert/wasteland guitar tracks might work as well? A la Fallout New Vegas?
