I usually have Ska going. I find it makes me more productive.

If only it would do the same for my dwarves.....

Given the way most of my fortresses wind up, The Dead Kennedys' "Holiday in Cambodia" is apropos.

Rather than having them directly force you to mine adamantine, I would suggest that they give you strange moods that require adamantine. "Dig out the adamantine or Urist here goes insane and dies" is suitably vicious.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)

I listen either to the default music, DF Talk, or nothing whilst playing, because it's quiet. I judge the number of keypresses I make by the clacketty-clack typing noise of the keyboard, and it helps me get my rooms the right size.

The most fitting music for Dwarf Fortress I can think of would be from the Diablo soundtrack.

music that fits... well this one band that i'm listening at the moment goes OFF the fit-scale, crosses the horizon only to pop on the fit-scale again. maybe it's just strange enough to be not strange for DF, or maybe nothing is.

Ran across this band called Blackmoor's Night from Pandora. This song in particular seems to fit a retiring Adventurer pretty well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUzo591mgUQ

Anything from the Manowar album Gods of War is very fitting.

Besides, it's somehow enjoyable to think of groundhogs stacked to the very top of a cage and flooding out to kill.

Anything by Edvard Grieg specifically Morning for peaceful construction and In The Halls Of The Mountain King for battle. Oh and if classics not your taste try Owlcity, Sick of Sarah or Washington

You all do know that we everytime we gen a world in DF, a new universe is created somewhere, and everytime we delete a save we kill a whole world?
Aye, we are Armok, god of blood, evil, villager gutting, fortress building, legend making and elf thongs.
