Your most hated nemesis
« on: August 23, 2009, 12:31:33 pm »

Couldn't really find another thread like this so here goes :

Through my fort making career I've had the "pleasure" of making many enemies. And I discovered that whenever a creature butchers one of my dwarves it gets a name to show for it.

It's here that the thread comes into play: what's your worst nemesis, and what makes
him/her/it deserve the name to show for it ?

Iton nomonom (I think), Noble terror of the fort. I have lost many a dwarf to his steel mandates.

"WHAT THE FUCK WHY ARE YOU KILLING THE LEGENDARY WOODCUTTER! HE CANT MAKE STEEL ITEMS HE'S A DAMN WOODCUTTER! WE DONT EVEN HAVE FLUX YOU IDIOT!"

As for animals there's a sturgeon that's killed 2 haulers and 1 hunter sent to kill him. I tend to leave him alone

Skeletal FPS. They constantly invade my fortress, brining production to a near halt. I deploy my marksdwarves but they never seem to do any damage - they merely enrage the beast. I try emptying my magma chamber on them, and everything goes into this bullet-time kind of slow motion. I once tried to drain an ocean to escape their wrath and time itself stopped. They are a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad enemy.

Bembul the Hammerer, how I loathe ye.

I thought, "Hey, the Duke says I can't export iron, but I really need some random junk from the Humans, so I'll trade anyway. I'm sure one dwarf getting hammered to a pulp won't matter."

Cue me trading twenty or so narrow iron greaves.

Cue twenty or so dwarves showing up on the Justice page.

Cue about sixty deaths as a result from both his direct hammerings and the tantrum spirals that followed. Thankfully, Bembul himself was murdered by a mad Miller who couldn't take the deaths of his two children.

Eventually the tantrums stopped and life returned to normal...

Except I wanted revenge on the bastard, so I took my miner and went to his casket in the mass graveyard and channeled around it, hoping it would smash into a million pieces and somehow cause him agony in the Dwarven afterlife.

It fell through the next z-level and landed in my future King's Dining Room...on top of my Legendary Engraver.

Damn you Bembul!

Zombie slugmen.

No, seriously. Even though a naked, unskilled recruit can wrestle one to death without suffering worse than a bruise or two, and are extremely slow, my civilians are terrified of the things and are constantly dropping what they're doing to run away. They're one of two animals to spawn on my map (the others are zombie snailmen), killing one group causes another to appear somewhere else, they give a bad thought penalty to anyone who fight them because they're undead, and all they leave behind are chunks of rotten, boneless meat. And I somehow lost a couple of dwarves to them when they decided to jump in a pond while slaughtering them.

Even the goblins hate the things. The first thing they do is kill any slugmen standing nearby.

I once embarked right next to a cave, with a Titan standing on a cliff, within aggro range of where I wanted my fort stuff. It took me about two hours of savescumming (yes) to actually kill it without loosing anyone.

I eventually said "FUCK IT" and built a ballista.

There was a goblin Local Leader called Gozru Ngomlunguk Bagsnubtakuk Ngebzo who killed my mayor in a pitched woman-to-woman hammerduel.

He got away. The next time he came around he took out another couple of my soldiers.

The NEXT time he came around after that, I perforated him with +goblin bone bolts+. Poetic justice in the face.
