No furniture, but Adamantine clothes !
« on: August 23, 2009, 12:31:09 pm »

Yes, that civ has adamantine clothes, and lots of them.

This is the first time that I am modding civs and I got a slight problem.
On the six civs I made, only three worked.
That's not the main problem. One of the three civs that worked didn't have ANY furniture in their cities (so no doors, no tables, and nothing in the shops). The creatures of that civ were supposed to be a lot stronger than humans (they have wings ; they have "EXTRAVISION" ; they don't bleed, they don't feel pain and they can't vomit ; they deal 2-4 damage with their fists and 2-2 with their mouth) but their cities get quickly destroyed (chasm ?).
So, their countries can't grow or grow very slowly : there can be 2 villages in a country while at the same time an human country has lots of big cities and roads.
What can I do to make their cities grow faster ?

Are you sure that they actually live in cities, as opposed to dwarven caves or forest retreats?  That's all I can think of without seeing the raw entry.

For the furniture problem, I believe that if a civ has a buildingdestroyer creature anywhere in it, even if it is just in the capital being worshipped, that creature somehow destroys every piece of furniture in the civ. As for making a civ grow faster, make sure that it is set to be able to grow in some of the more popular types of biomes and then make the number next to it large. For example, [BIOME_SUPPORT:ANY_GRASSLAND:8].

Yes, they live in cities (in the mountain).
I made a mistake : those creatures can be nauseous, but they can't become tired.

It looks to me that you forgot to out a baby tag in. I'm not exactly a modding expert, but doesn't that make them have no babies?

unrelated, but I'm pretty sure that they are not [mundane].

As far as I'm aware, you can't specify specific materials with the [X_PREF] tags, although I don't think that's the problem.  But for the adamantine clothes, it might be caused by the fact that your civ lives aboveground, but has no access to above-ground, so they have no other cloth to use.  They won't use subterranean clothing, I'm guessing, because they don't have access to subterranean biomes (living in above ground cities).  I imagine this would result in the game bugging out and selecting adamantine thread as the base material for their clothing.  I've heard of similar things happening giving digging tools to civs that can't use metal.

Kind of. As long as you have the [CHILD] tag in they will have children, but without the baby tag they completely bypass the baby stage.

Modding new races in always results in teething problems. My first modded race somehow only had access to gloves and wore nothing else, and that was after the world generator made 500 rejected worlds (no playable civ) due to a typo in the creature raws.

They also have leather clothes, for instance. What I meant is that guards have lots of adamantine things, and civilians have some of it. When the civilians have weapons, they are always made with adamatine (except for picks). And about the megabeast theory for the furniture problem, there's the problem in ALL cities. And I think that if a megabeast destroyed every furniture of a city, that would be recorded in legends.

What is it that makes a civ use adamantine?

I modded my elves a bit and they brought me an addy pickaxe.
