The thing about Muse, is that many of their songs have sooooo catchy beats that you are totally addicted to it for several days. Then you get bored and listen to another song. THEN, you listen to a Muse song again and you get addicted. THEN you get bored a-

I think you get the point.

Have you ever heard Renegade by Stix?  THat song is catchy.

Oh, and the 30 minute jazz odyssey thing was because, at a local concert sponsored by the school, my favorite local bands drummer (who played keyboard), bassist (who lives down the street), the drummer of another local band, and a saxaphone player from the school jazz band somehow ended up with a gig at the show.

Hilarity ensued.

I like Muse, but their last album, Black Holes and Revelations, was a bit of a disappointment besides 'Knights of Cydonia'. Absolution was absolutely fantastic the whole way through though, and I may just have been expecting too much.

Sickest song though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgQY_5YsVxA Listen to it the whole way through and realize he can SING, by god.

Too bad Muse was used in the Twilight soundtrack. There goes their 'cool cred' ;)

Does it really matter if something was in Twilight?  It's just another annoying movie for teenage girls.  It's not like it's the plague or something.

Spoilers:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I listen to bands that don't even exist yet, and Neutral Milk Hotel.

That's like, automatically 42 google-brazillion indie creds for me.

You just declared you had indie cred. Doesn't that like, automagically make you have zero?

I'm just saying this based off of what I know about stupid rules about stupid things.

▼Actually, it's just midnight and past my bedtime and I can't think worth beans.

That would have been his wit, very dry, with a hint of citrus in the nose.

(of course, if you knew this already and were continuing the sarcasm, I must say - well played, sir!)

Um, dude.  Watch it with the "greatest band in the world" shtick.  Yeah, they're cool.  Yeah, the dude looks good in a red suit.  But best band in the world?  Guitar-god of music?  That's strong stuff.

Ever listened to Pink Floyd?  AC/DC?  Friggin' Led Zeppelin?

Honestly, the Comfortably Numb solo....  That thing at least, if not Gilmour himself, attained divinity.

Yes Kagus that is what I was trying to get across earlier but kind of failed at it.

Before you make the claim of best musicianship in a rock band though, ever heard Dream Theater?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ-dNUOYNLA -- live performance of part of their awesome concept album "Metropolis Part II: Scenes From a Memory"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkF4JD2rO3Q&feature=related -- in the studio on their new album; somewhat different sound than their other stuff but freakin' awesome.

P.P.S. Checked out some of those videos - they sound cool, but you should check out Dream Theater and compare the two; especially the Metropolis Part 2 album :P

Hell yes. Dream Theater is awesome. I'm going to see them live this December when they come down to Auckland.

I wanted to see Muse in Nov but it was sold out.

They are a good band, but like many others I must state; Radiohead are better. Listening to "The National Anthem" right now, actually.

I prefer Radiohead as well (and a good many other groups), but I agree that Muse is a good band...why does it deserve a topic in the General Discussion, though? I mean, I realize that a lot of 'not so on-topic' threads have popped up here since Various Nonsense was blocked, but still...just seems out of place.

This is the "Finally..." General Discussion, not the Dwarf Fortress General Discussion - this is the right place for it (unless an Entertainment forum were opened as thatguyyaknow suggests)

Oops, I just noticed now. My apologies, I'll edit.

Also Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff - believe it or not, a lot of their stuff is really freakin' hardcore. They're the guitar virtuosos of classical music.

The only down side to Pink Floyd is Roger Waters's ego. :P
