On Room Suggestions

This is a thread for suggesting new room types in the vein of meeting rooms, dining halls, prisons, etc.
I've seen a variety of great ideas from DF players that I think would be pretty cool. Like having actual baths to clean the vomit and mud from your weary dwarves. That could be the eventual goal of soap creation.
An execution hall: could be an extension of the prison and would be used for criminals or POWs (with all due respect to current presidential hopefuls in the US) and particularly morbid or violent dwarves would come watch and be ever so happy about the blood.
And, of course, the arena awesomeness. It could call dwarves to witness the carnage, though if it's a pit style arena, which most are, I don't know how you would have a designation go up and down. Maybe you could have a noble's box. And it would be trapped to drop the nobles into the arena. Y'know, hypothetically.

I know the Great Toad is busy, but when he gets around to some random cool stuff, maybe he could do some of this stuff.

What are your off-beat room suggestions?

I'd like to add to the OP, when a map is generated, special rooms could be placed,  that are discovered when digging. Like a cave containing trapped daemons, an ancient tomb with artefacts, curses and ghosts, altar to a forgotten god etc.

Would add to the thrill when digging out your level and discover Chthulus' lair smack in the middle of your residential area  :D

One room I know a lot of people want is an arena.  Maybe it could be designated from chains or cages and it would give you options for deciding what creatures to bring in, and a button to start the match - which would release all the monsters of course.

I've suggested Vaults before; they'd be the center of your fortress's wealth- coins and treasures would be stored here, along with artifacts.   When enemies attack, they'd most likely be aiming to break into the vault.

I'm not running DF right now so I can't check, but couldn't you just set up a stockpile to do that?

* Library/Academy/University
* Hospital
* Archery niches in walls


Changes:

* Generic furnaces (rather than glass, smelter and wood)

In all honesty, glass furnaces work very differently than other furnaces.

my new room of choice would be the safehouse, which can trigger all civilian dwarves to drop all jobs, go there and stay idle while the trigger is on...
its a major buzz killer for me when i tell my dorfs to not go outside but they peek out the door all the while on their way to a job getting a gobbo arrow in the face

safehouse zone would rock... if you do this toady you deserve immortality, oh wait you already do

I don't get it. Do I use those words too much? Maybe I'm just too "California." And at least it's not "kewl."

I'm from California too.   He's saying that merely using a stockpile is not cool or dwarvish (or even all that similar) as having a huge heavily protected vault that enemies actively try to break into.

dont thieves actively target valuable items as it is now?

anyways, i always make a vault, which is guarded at all times by military dwarves
