Dwarves - these are a particularly strong species, their native planet having large, sprawling natural cave networks.  They are generally somewhat intelligent as well, being able to perform some tasks they have not actually trained themselves in.  Though they have their downsides; given how important it is to have fire in a cold cave for survival, dwarves developed an instinctual lack of fear for fire.  While most dwarves can overcome this instinct now, there was a time when they would allow a flame to burn across their bodies, and would go on as if it wasn't there.  Even if it was on their beard [. . .]

I hope it likewise has a comforting effect.
