I'm out the other side of the third stage. My computer refused to start once I switched it off.

 Between first and second stages.
Sure the keyboard is disgusting and the case is cannibalized from a ten-year-old computer, but the insides are absolutely amazing.

Mine used to be firmly in Stage 3, and it still has some mannerisms of it, but through a series of reformats and a Virus Safari that would make Cecil Rhodes weep, I managed to walk it backwards to the functionality of Stage 2.  I'm also that rabidly protective of it.  I used to worry about turning it off, but I somehow fixed that one day too.

It's from 2004 and has churned through four motherboards, three processors, two graphics cards, and I lost count how many power supplies.  I gave up trying to cool it properly when I noticed it ran better with the case open, so now it just sits there like a very dusty zombie keeping me awake at night.  The keyboard is thoroughly filthy of course, but the monitor puts it to shame being several years older, and is itself outdone by the speakers which have survived from a 486 package I got in 1997.

I'm in between stage 2 and 3.

one of my speakers is busted...
My printer is fucking top-of-the-line still
a fan recently broke in my tower, so I am at constant risk of overheating
I recently flushed most of the dust from my tower
it turns on and off just fine, and sledom has problems with viruses
my desktop is completely overloaded
my keyboard and mouse are a bit shiny.
my monitor is spatteredwith tea and paint-water (from doing art at my computer desk)
a lot of my harware has old drawings and paper documents stacked on the top

I can top that.

I have a pair of speakers from a Windows 95 computer, made in 1995.

They pick up radio signals from passing ambulances and crackle (in jealousy) when any other sound is in the room.

I had an ultimate old computer, which was like four of my computers put togethers,
but some terrible things happened to it.

Firstly, when I moved, I decided I'd snatch it on another trip, so I left it behind.

The real-estate lady decided it looked better out on the office desk,
to make the room look more purposeful.

So I'm assuming that old people were playing solitaire on it and such for ages.

I finally get the chance to snatch it back,
when I found out my father broken into the house and stole it,
and probably gave it away for $30, Radeon, and all.

It was a colossal beast though.
The shell was from two different computers, and the thing remain open,
like Aqizzar describes, because no matter what I did, the fan wouldn't keep it cool.
I had it standing open, with a small box fan against it.
Duct tape was involved.
The parts were pretty standard, regular stuff,
but some of the plug-in cards were from my Compaq of 1998.
The second monitor included.

I miss that thing, and am only happy it was well replaced before disappearing forever.
Also, it had spent periodic nights out in the snow,
whenever a gf would decide they didn't need me, or my computer.

Poor thing.

My computer is from somewhere between 2003 and 2004. It wasn't top of the line back then, and so far we've only added a graphics card(it didn't start out with one) and added some RAM.

Both pairs of speakers for it are busted, it has only 37 GB of storage total, and it has a tendency to sometimes bug out and display way further to the right than it should, so the rightmost part isn't even displayed on the screen because it's too far to the right. That means I have to change the display settings and move it to the right, but if I move it too far it starts glitching and corrupt the colors onscreen, so I have to change the screen resolution, because it only bugs out on the highest resolutions, and wait until it stops freaking out.

Despite this, I'm still on late stage 2. I'm somewhat frustrated with its lack of power, but there's still a lot of stuff I can do with it and it functions quite adequately for that.

37GB of hard drive?  Bummer.  I only have 130GB and it's still too small.

I put my computer together with a HDD from 2003 or so, 120 GB's. That lasted a couple weeks. Then bought a 250 GB drive. Lasted a year or so, with periodic cleanings. Now they're both full; thinking about scrapping the computer and rebuilding, though.

Anyway, then I buy a fancy-pants new laptop for about the same price as my entire self-built computer, and discover it has about the same amount of power. Then I check the hard drive: 500 GB. Daaaang. My poor ginormous hulking dual-crt'd monstrosity. So then- wait what thread is this again?

My computer is now about 5 years old, It's somewhere in between stage 2 and 3, in computing power it's fine, I can run TF2 at medium settings just fine, and anything that takes mroe power than I have (Except prototype) requires DX10 which XP can't run. My headphones are busted and I can't find any good ones, my screen is mediocre but fine, I have a fancy G15 keyboard, long-term-borrowed a Saitek X52 Flight Control System (Über joystick) from by dad, I have a year old trusty logitech mouse, all the icons are worn off, but it has two thumb buttons (Fwd and Bcwd, for browsing.) so it's fine. The computer itself is not as good, it gives an uncanny beeping/whining sound whenever it starts. And it occasionally just gives up halfway through starting. After it does start it's fine though.

Also, let us re-rail this topic.

My laptop is still out of commission, though :(.

I cannae draw without it. Although I've secured a monitor, which should ease this.
