Cthulhu Mythos
« on: August 22, 2009, 01:21:19 am »

I've you've been following my every post (and why wouldn't you?) you'd notice I've expressed an interest in doing a Cthulhu style bit of writing. Thing is, I have no idea about anything about Cthulhu whatsoever apart from that Atlantis 2 movie. So, since there is at least one fan of the series (the big man... uh, fish thing abomination himself) on the forum, I was wondering where should I start and what should I know?

There is of course the story "Call of Cthulhu" which is all about the famous giant green thing itself.

To understand the series, you must understand the author. H. P. Love craft was a messed up guy.

Also, there are places on the net were one, if he so chooses, can delve head first into the cyclopean madness of forbidden tomes, great old ones, deep old ones, shuggoths, al-shuggoths, mini-suggoths, cute little anime shuggoths, the dreaded (yet somehow also much-saught-after) Necrolomininomicomilon, and of course Mr. squid-like himself.

Just don't come crying to me when you're rocking in a pool of your own vomit contimplating suicide after witnessing a giant worm-monster dump acidic saliva all over genetically mutated freak-children in a foul-smelling decrepit old sardine factory.

They're all really great reads.

Wow. Reading time!

I'm more interested in the style as much as anything else.

Style of writing. Horrific, evil styles of writing, with suspense and tension used in ways man was not meant to see...

Exactly! You will not be disappointed. Of course, you will also be driven utterly insane, so, trade off I guess.

I fall in and out of love with this community.
For a while I get it in my head that I've grown past you all.
But I always eventually come back.

You guys are just too cool.
