Which means that astronauts can't play DF during those long, boring missions unless they bring their own laptops?  For shame!

@filiusenox:  <praying for successful venture.  Long live the Empire!>
Well, the entire point of it also means that if they brought laptops those would be fried by radiation after a few hours.

Wait, what type of radiation is that destroys equipment but astronauts still stay in one piece?

And if I remember well there was this "virus on a space computer" problem recently because someone brought it in on a laptop?

Won't protect you, these are Space Zombies. You're going to need some heavy duty protection to slow them down.

A type that affect fragile microscopic components that rely only on electric and magnetic properties probably.

Oh, so that's a type that kills humans, then? Um... you do realize we're more fragile than the computers, in almost every way?

Well, I'm not sure it physically destroy computer chips, just trouble the electromagnetic flux. But I'm not a specialist, so I'm just guessing.

I'm sorry, that's pure techno-babble with no basis in reality. ^^;

An electromagnetic field that has no real impact on people (we think) can totally fuck up electronics, but it's child's play to harden electronic devices against even nuclear grade EMF's.

Neruz wins. :)

However, bring a laptop into space, and it will work. It might be degraded and eventually fail, yes, but that'd be over a period of weeks or months (barring solar storms). Obviously, that's still not good enough for NASA.

Yes, NASA uses old computer designs with new durability modifications.

Because frankly, if I have to trust the thing to take me from orbit back to landing safely, I don't trust anything as new as Leopard, let alone something like Windows 7 or Snow Leopard.

Yes, actually, I am trying to get myself banned.  I wish Toady would quit working on this worthless piece of junk and go back to teaching math.
