I actually noticed the low luck... and the sausage fest thing...... anyways I'm gonna say that you start in a really small town, 5 houses, all yours, daytime but there is still the odd zombie in the closet, everyone else is either crazy or dead.... figures. There is apparently a nearby town that is fairly zombie proof, aka your goal. or if no one wants a goal it could be a wave survival thing each night until you die?
@Archangle a machete is basically a short sword so a customized short sword is fine.
and please, next person be a girl...

Right after we get to the town it should continue though, like a massive wave of zombies comes and attacks it or something.

My plan is to make a fortified fort of fortitude, and try to connect all of our houses.

I would like a goal, but maybe something more like the Army is going to do an evac on day x in place y and you must be there at the right time or you lose like in Zako's ZA game.

The sun begins to rise, walking from your houses you see 4 other survivors looking aimlessly around. Each house is about two stories tall, obvious roof access, no cars, and the house in the middle with the scared looking teenager on top has a small tool-shed.  The zombies from last night mysteriously dissipated.
