Meh, I can never get into those things. I tried Facebook, but got bored after two days. Plus, the white UI for Facebook kills my eyes. Too many roguelikes have caused my eyes to adapt to dark main colours with lots of lighter colours as highlights. Everyone I know in real life is appalled by my choice of all black with white borders as my theme on Windows computers. It hurts their eyes.

Edit: Heh

Facebook hates me as much as I hate it.

Heheh, all the Facebook addicts I know started off scoffing it, saying that it's no better than Myspace or Friendster. Now look at them, wrapped in the tendrils of Facebook.

I dunno, I see it as an interesting thing.. just somewhere where friends hang out. You don't have to use it if you don't want to.. hell, you can even keep certain people from seeing certain things. I rather like FB's privacy policy.

I held out against facebook for all of college, but once I graduated I realized it was the best way to stay in touch with people. This summer my group of friends has been using it to keep everyone informed of plans, which is way easier than having people all call each other on the phone and never know who they should call or who's already been called...not having facebook would mean either people would always have to remember to call me, or they just wouldn't because they're in the habit of just making plans on facebook, or both. It's worth it.

So... it helps you because it means you don't have to ever talk to people in person?

I mean, seriously, if your not going to be talking to someone *without* some all powerful internet tool, is it really worthwhile talking to them anyway? they're hardly a close friend.

I hate all forms of long-distance communication. Phone, MSN, e-mail, telegraph, you name it. Forums are the only exception because I can leave wherever I want to and nobody will notice. Not PMs on forums, though, I hate getting those. I feel obliged to reply, and anything I have to do I quickly start to hate.
Must . . . resist . . . obviously . . . poor choice.

you're attitude is much the same as mine in the above regards. Since i got my first email account 15 years ago i quickly came to loath being bombarded my mindless prattle. Hell i even tend to leave my phone inbox full so you either have to catch me directly or pop by and say hello..... you know...real communication. i'll gladly go for a beer or coffee and chat all day or night.

Besides, in times of need i think you'll find out that on average online friend are anything but....mind you i've always been VERY independent and don't need a bunch of cheerleaders to stroke my ego. I thrive on solitude and very much enjoy it...it makes people wonder, but it keeps me sane :P  !!

Facebooks just generally quite handy. Its free, so everyone can use it, and you can quite easily get into touch with people you havn't seen in yonks. Its also handy for organising things.

Worst thing is finding pictures of you drunk when you don't remember them being taken......

If you have hundreds of RL friends, I'm pretty sure that it's not easy to talk to all of them in person. I have only enough time to see only only a few friends a day, and that's those who live nearby. No way I'm going to call a best friend in a different time zone just to say "hi". Facebook is convenient. And hey, it's worthwhile talking to a good friend from back in school that I've never physically seen in 5 years.

Oh god, I just got sucked in. A friend invited me, and I felt like I was spitting in their face by not signing up.

I have half a dozen friend request from RL friends that I fell out of touch with. I didn't accept any because I only made a Facebook account to play Texas Hold'em. I'm a horrible person  :-\

I hold nothing against Facebook, But I'm not really bothered creating and maintaining an account. Also there are some freaks on that site...

The freaks here I can handle.

Better the freaks you know, then the freaks you don't.

Starcraft II Battle.net is apparently supposed to have social networking features.  Game + Social Networking site = what?
