Hmm my humans fortress work just fine, until orcs kill all my humans. So the first thing that should be builded is wall.  Problem with harvesting and equipment sometimes appear in dwarf fortress, not only human.

It's weird my first fort was alright but the humans dropped there job equipment after using it (picks, axes etc) but my new one my guys seem to not have that problem.

Try another world gen, that might fix it.

My word. I have made, the ultimate, possibly ELVEN like mistake of... I didn't... I didn't designate a food stockpile!!! I FORGOT!!! Oh my word, I think I'm going to kill myself in a very Dwarvenly fashion. No, I don't deserve it. It must be in Elven fashion. How would an Elf kill itself?

Here's what I have so far. Three buildings for living/dining. They are the notably large buildings, one still doesn't have a roof. And those four squares are going to house my production facilities.

My first public structure will be a chapel with wells inside of it, and statues. It will be the main meeting area for now.

Not doing well actually.

Apparently Carp are even SCARIER to humans, and kill them on a regular basis.
I think I've lost something like 12 Humans to them. Then a nasty ambush, I had the goblins OUTNUMBERED with 9 wrestlers and 1 swordsman with a shield. He died first, then all but two wrestlers survived against 3 goblin lashers and 2 archers.

It's also hard to defend a town, I'm considering erecting a giant wall around my town.

For some reason though they're almost always hungry/thirsty even though they have far more than enough food/booze and a well.

Also, it took a few hours to build all this up. I haven't counted but I'd guess something like 5?

 Yes, although I think there is a tag that you can get rid of to get rid of them.

Why didm't you build a wall? a wall is one of the first things you should make. My guys had to sleep in the mud before the wall was built.

I didn't think. I was too busy thinking "OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY THIS IS GOING TO BE THE COOLEST TOWN EVAR!!11!!!" That I forgot that carps and goblins want me killed dead.
