Has anyone done any conclusive testing regarding the effectiveness of using war elephants against demons?

They'd probably work out alright against Tentacles and Froggies, but they won't stand a chance gainst SoF.

Wouldn't really consider the existence of demons a spoiler personally, pretty expectable, isn't it? I would assume that a few SoF would fall despite the elephants burning to death, though

You might be surprised; SoF are nightmarish, even champion dorfs clad in adamantine only last a few seconds against SoF, you pretty much have to use Xbow dorfs to stop them.

 I think a swarm of elephants would bring down a SoF or two, but SoF's don't need to attack to do damage. Odds are they would fry the elephants without trying.

Maybe if you force the SoF to fight swarms of elephants in close quarters, think SoF wouldn't stand a chance then.

Yeah, that's the idea, have 20+war elephants in a narrow corridor taking down demons, with a backup line of marksdwarves just in case, I'll probably test it by friday.

I actually tried this idea, and it worked alright... for a little while. Basically, the elephants only fought well in close quarters, and before long too many demons showed up so they stayed behind and fried the elephants. Messy.

Yeah, I tried it and that's what happened, I would expect they'd be a formidable force against non-SoF demons, however.

Maybe if you mod elephants to make them [FIRE_PROOF]?

In any case, you would likely need to have several retreating chambers for when the elephants get overwhelmed, the SoF's advance... into another horde of Elephants.
