I would love this once archers get an actual range to them. The type where you can have an infantry blockade and still have them fire over at the enemies, instead of subjecting them to melee.

Yeah, there's a mod for that. I think it's called "Ranged Era" and I'm pretty sure it's not on the dev version.

It would wreck the game balance.

Now to add ranged era to gambits empire builder. Then I can have archers on the walls of my forts, a one tile border of grassland, and a moat. Have infantry block them out of the land and force them into the shallows for the dodge penalty. Archers soften em up, infantry cleans out.

I remember playing through a campaign called 'Heiress to the Throne' and then not being able to play it after I upgraded, though they still had a 'Heir to the Throne'. I was annoyed enough that I stopped playing this.

We IRCers are going through a Wesnoth phase right now. Been having a game or two a day for a week now (including a gruelling 6 player game that was eventually won by insane feats of human endurance once it passed the 4 hour mark)

I'm pretty sure I'm the worst player.

I wanted to get into this game, but I never had the spirit to. What mods should I download?

Vanilla's cool, and otherwise, your preferences. I'd recommend the Era of High Sorcery, it makes the game into something rensembling Master of Magic. (The AI can't play it, though.)

Also, I'd LOVE to get in one of these games. What's the IRC adress?

I'm thinking it's described here: http://www.bay12games.com/chat.html

I've heard so much about this game recently... downloading and trying it out now!

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

its a fun game, or at least i want it to be fun, i really do. I have been playing briefly off and on for years now and it always seems to lack some strategic depth for me.

I wish instead of single units on each hex, that you could assemble squads that move together. Then I think it might have some more of the depth i wish it had.

That all said, it is a pretty cool game.

I was pretty good at campaign mode, but I sucked at multiplayer and that was what mattered, so I ended up quitting.  I liked the graphics though.

I really raged when I first started playing because I was horrible at it.

We've got a pulse! Anyone up for scheduling empire builder campaigns? These would be multiple multi-hour sessions we are talking about though, so only people who would be able to, y'know, handle that.

I would be.

Also, best campaign is DEFINITELY Under the Burning Suns. Simple amazing.

the Ukian campaigns (Something Moon?) are also great fun.

Played it for a while.

Unfortunately a game takes to long, as long as you don't play on one of this ridiculously small maps, which are imbalanced as hell.
This and the fact that I didn't knew anybody else playing this game, made me stop.

I'm available tonight to play. Anyone besides Gryph want to play that Empire campaign?
