A-hahahahahahaha!

I'm loving this. This is good.

You really sucker punched everyone in this competition. And I mean that in the best way possible.

Muckgrotto - a terrifying swamp, nothing like what we had prepared for! Genius.

I'm actually laughing in real life here.

EDIT: Wow, one of my dogs just tore apart a blasted FIRE MAN THAT JUMPED ME. This is awesome - and he's only got one yellow wound, a few browns, and one light gray.

Oh shit..
Terifying, saltwater with aquifer...

...
I haven't succesfully pierced an aquifer yet besides digging near a magma pipe, this will never be aesthetically pleasing  :'( :'( :'(
*sigh*
Well, time to get planning, survival challenge, oh yes...

Heh, there go my megaproject ideas  :P . Anyway I acutally like this map more. It seems far more interesting than a featureless mountain. Do the projects really have to be useful for survival though? They can't be just monumental renditions of the designers ego?

Also is the aquifer really saltwater? In that case is pump desalination considered an exploit?

Not necessarily just survival, but try to stick with a theme or sommat.

Okay, Really leaving now!

huh, this isn't as hard as it may have first appeared.

Admittedly it's not easy, but i've already gotten started on defenses.

EDIT: I'm past the aquafier, and the surface fort is mostly completed. Aside from the fireman, no threats of note have appeared.

That refuse right above the remains is the fire man's head. Immediately after killing the brute the dog's wounds (minus the broken lower body) almost immediately healed, but now the beak dogs are wandering around.

I'm just hoping they don't path directly into the fort.

And one of the dogs jumped into the lava to kill the lava man ^^
And it succeeded :p

I've lost all my dogs to the grimeling and fire man and two dwarves to beak dogs. I'll try to keep going but if the settlement turns out too depressed I'll restart.

Lost a farmer to the fire now but I think I can save it...

it's near the end of the summer and the first dwarf has been lost.

Woodcutter died to fire imp attack. I should probably have designed my fort a tad better than i did.

EDIT: also, the water source is almost ready.

EDIT EDIT: seems to be working, but i'm not entirely sure it's desalted.

just started, and nothing bad has happened.

is there any rule against digging down the side of the magma pipe, and then walling off the entrance?
(just seems undwarfy to me)

Huzzah!

I've never breached a double aquifer before! I'm going to avoid the simple route and do it properly. For now I'm running away from the firey critters.

I have another megaproject idea. It's bigger in scope than the one in the first challenge, but with 8 years I'm going to give it a whirl. It's a hero or zero kinda thing. If it doesn't work, I'm boned.
