Okay, I'm about to pass out from exhaustion. First batch of votes sent, and the rest will be done through the day tomorrow (Jim permitting). Commentary follows (scores omitted until after final scoring)
Martin:
P1 - Aquifer Removal:
Huge Terraforming Projects are one of his specialties, and Martin doesn't dissapoint this time. Subverting the entire natural environment seems quite Dwarfy to me.
P2 - Central Tower:
An impressive construction, complete with magma moat and green glass walls. Nothing earth-shattering, but it's a grand thing to behold, and quite defensible.
P3 - Entrance Tower/Bridge:
A solid piece of defense, directing all traffic through one Bottleneck, and protecting against thieves and siegers, while still allowing merchant access.
P4 - Ring Fortress:
Well-made fractal ring design preserves efficiency, while also being asthetically pleasing. The magma core is a nice touch.
P5 - Survival Elements:
This fort can weather a siege, a plague... just about anything, by the look of it! You can gather water, food, wood, and raw glass almost indefinitely in this fort.
Layout:
Efficient and organized, with a nice central, fractal design. Movement is kept to a minimum, and resources are freely available in well-protected zones.
Beauty:
An asthetically pleasing circular layout, with a magma core. There's not a lot of variety in form, though, which makes the appearance somewhat bland.
Toughness:
Solid defensive bulwarks, and a bottleneck at the north makes this fort nigh-impenetrable.
Industry:
Industry seems to be able to run without a hitch, even within a siege. You've also opened access to Sand where it was pretty much unavailable. Well done on that!
Creativity:
You took care of the aquifer in a unique way, but much of the rest of the fortress has a very simple, traditional feel to it.
Magua:
P1 - Sign:
Though simple, it was a nice big monument to the site, and the civilization. Your attention to some of the worldgen details was a nice touch! I'll get back to that later.
P2 - Pump Towers:
Thats a lot of Pumps! Good call on pressurizing the magma/water once, so you don't have to pump it more than once. Not very asthetically pleasing, but quite Dwarf.
P3 - Hammer:
I wouldn't have noticed that it wasn't done if you hadn't mentioned it. Good way of concealing the pump for pyramid casting. Once the king moved in, this would have been a nice little vantage point to survey the Fortress.
P4 - Pick:
I feel similarly to how I felt about the Hammer. (Perhaps they could have been grouped together?)
P5 - Sacrificial Pyramid:
Fine archetecture here, and a monument to the power of industry. The Cinnibar accents are a beautiful touch, especially when paired with the natural-cast Obsidian. Easily my favorite Pyramid ever!
Layout:
Not mechanically efficient, and there is a bit of sprawl, but the fort tends toward conciseness nonetheless.
Beauty:
Not the most beautiful layout overal, but the pyramid nets you points, as do the asthetically pleasing casting pumps turned symbols of the Communist Party.
Toughness:
I'm definitely digging the Semi-Automated Drowning Chamber. Overal, pretty well-defended.
Industry:
Way to go hardcore storymode on your industry! I like that you shunned many of the exploits, in favor of a more realistic challenge, such as no beer-baking, appointing a Sheriff and the proper amount of Royal Guards, etc.
Creativity:
I really liked your attention to the story details of the game, such as the symbols of the civilization, the engravings about the war with the humans (a really nice touch!), and the Duke's Scepter Hoard to name a few. It really fleshed out the fort in my mind. In the future, we ought to weigh the story-side of Contest Forts as well.
Slogo: (Personal Favorite Fort!)
P1 - Fire Snake Moats:
I like the design, and the functionality. A simple concept, but it is asthetically pleasing, thematically solid, and a defensive feature! Quite Dwarfy of you.
P2 - Crescent Tower:
Its an interesting design for a tower, and nice attention to the civilization. Not earth-shattering, but I like it fine.
P3 - Spiral Ramp/Obsidian Breach:
A nice, well-defended way into the Grotto. A giant tunnel spiralling down into the deeps conjures a pretty mental image, though the execution still seems rather plain. Notheless, nice work.
P4 - The Grotto:
Yeah, this earns you my Favorite Fort badge. I absolutely love this design. it's like an cave-city situated atop an underground sea! something about it is so Jules Verne... I love it! Fantastic design on this, and a project of huge scope! This could have made multiple projects in itself, but the natural cave accents add a fantastic touch to it.
P5 - The Yard:
A thematic city above ground... adding all those unique buildings designed for certain industrial purposes makes this feel like a real city. Well done!
Layout:
The city seems divided between the surface and the underground. Nothing wrong with it, but efficiency and short trips is perhaps not one of this fort's strong points.
Beauty:
Aboveground, you have a series of buildings that look like a city. Below, a flooded open-air cave-town atop an underground sea. Very pretty, and I love the design... its a very interesting dichotomy going on between the surface and the underground.
Toughness:
The Fire Snake Moat seems like it defends the fort pretty well, and the spiraling downward tunnel is also well-guarded.
Industry:
Seems to be fairly average in its industrial capacity.
Creativity:
Beautiful city design, overal, and a very nice use of an aquifer... instead of destroying it, you incorporated it into the city design, which was very nice.
