Sounds fun  ;D

Me, I'm going to make obsidian in the sky! Now if only those masons (I've got everyone in the fortress who doesn't have a proper job doing masonry and architecture for this) hurried up...

I want to start pumping the magma already!

My mayor recently demanded that I make two anvils. I obliged, then discovered that my jeweler had decorated one of them a couple of times. Hint for the day: merchants really like jewel-encrusted anvils..

Well, I decided to start a few fort, low starting equipment and different skills.

The social skilled trader w/ novice in armoursmithing
Crossbow/hammer/wrestler/armour user
2x Armoursmith/Building Designer
2x Weaponsmith/Building Designer
Crossbow maker/Building Designer

7x of each starter booze
14x turtle
1x plump helmet
4xIron
4xPig Iron
4xFlux Stone
3xCopper
1xAnvil
1x leather
A little wood

2x dogs, 1x cat

First order of business, use the copper to set up a furnace, smelter, and forge. Make some charcoal, then steel, then a steel battle axe and pick - wood and stone and shelter.

Designate mining and treecutting(odd looking trees), more wood and charcoal and steel and a leatherworkers is set up, a quiver made and the furnaces and forge rebuilt inside with stone, as a stack of copper bolts are forged - my "military" is activated and stood down.

There's a pond nearby, and the climate warm, so plans are made to save it, and a cistern dug - 45 tiles of +6/7 water safe, so I figure I'll send out a fisherdwarf, move my remaining supplies inside, and build a surface farm, then gather some surface plants to sustain me - my military can protect me for now, and I can move the farm somewhere protected soon enough.

A fisherdwarf is interrupted by a ZOMBIE!... groundhog. How threatening, Military is dispatched, and so is the rodent. Bone bolts will come later, but this foreshadows...

The trees are dead, that's why they looked odd. And so are the plants. And undead wildlife.

Supplies dwindling, two seeds from my only plump helmet, and nothing on the map to eat(and I guess that means the trees are non-renewable, too) - that pond is my only hope! Fishing a priority, I quickly dig out an underground farm to plant my only two seeds, build a masons and doors to secure the fort, then dig a tunnel to the cistern and floor over it's stairway.

When I quit last night, my fort was growing hungry, with only 4 fish between 7 dwarves. Fortunately, the cat proven there's plenty of vermin should it come to that, but it could be close.

I'm talking about the bronze colossus. It's supposed to be made entirely of bronze.
But really he's just a softie inside. They all are really. When megabeasts come to your fort you never welcome them inside and give them a hug, do you. You heartless bastards...

New coastal fort which I love.  A soldier got wounded, and I had no buckets.  I made a few, but there was no fresh water.  So I dug a tidal pool and set up a desalinization plant for my wounded soldier.  The tidal pool was too close to the fort, and seawater began to flood in.  It flowed in for a couple tiles and then made a gigantic waterfall down one of my main stairway shafts all the way to the bottom of the map, where I had thankfully mined a great deal.  My dwarves found the waterfall to be very pleasing.  While my basement mine was flooding, I forbade all jobs except for masonry, and walled off my main stairway on all levels, and walled off all the other stairways on the bottom level.  I am now slowly setting up a magma pump system to plug the hole in my fort, just so I can have the joy of pumping out all the floodwater and reopening the main staircase...some day.

The discovery of three veins of bituminous coal delayed the completion of my magma moat with a couple of weeks. Or months. I can't remember. I then over-enthusiastically channelled the way to the magma, which lead to a small, but too big room to not completely flood, leading to more troubles. I've managed to seal of one channel, but the second remains open. Hopefully my new strategy will lead to a better filling of the moat.

I found an underground river! From underneath. It's above the level of my entrance...

I think it's a soon to be above-ground waterfall.

Do you mean an aquifer or an underground pool? Underground pools can be routed around rather easily.
[/quote] aquifer bro, idk how to get around it, it will be usefull if i can get past it. :-\
