Man, living in Michigan sucks even more now. We never get hit by natural disasters! Ever! It's so boring!

A shudder every now and then would spice things up, but we don't get any...

I know your pain buddy. The general DC and Maryland area gets nothing. No tectonic plates, a column of rising hot air drives away all storms and all the famous people go to New York.

Man, I can barely remember it, but I was playing in my sandbox in Wellington at the age of 3, I think. My mom rushes outside and screams

"Jack O'Mally, age 265 currently residing on Mars!" Or something to that effect. "Are you okay?"

How is it I barely noticed a 2.5? Seriously, the fridge was halfway across the freaking room.

2.5 earthquakes occur all the time and tend to do very little damage.  Did you really mean 2.5, or was this one unusual?

I believe, the standard procedure is to mount your refrigerator to the wall, in the same manner as a top-heavy bookshelf...

Anyway, I've slept through earthquakes that made the news. Maybe it's a gene or something. ;)

Living on a fault line could be fun.

The thought that, any day now, the plates could shift...

All I know is that afterwards I spent ten minutes crouched under a doorway to make my mom calm down.

They last like maybe 1 minute. 3 minutes tops in case of an aftershock (or the first wave being a foreshock). Oh and, If is one of the larger one 7+, the doorway isn't going to protect you.

At 7+, nothing short of having a safe room will save you. the doorway is your best bet when there is nothing better around.

I live in california, to much fire, and earthquakes, and the possibility of a volcano erupting from one of our mountains and L.A. might get hit with a huge earthquake.

I think your best best is a soil area with minimal structures, trees and underground stuff.

Actually I was guessing. Whatever it was, I think it freaked my mom out pretty badly and I didn't feel a thing.

The effects of an earthquake can be greatly exaggerated if you're on the second floor of a rickety house. What you might barely notice outside might seem huge from the attic. Not to presume anything about your state of affairs, but if you're living in a very poorly maintained building or shotgun house with little foundation, that would do it.

Considering a large percentage of houses in Wellington are built into the side of enormous hills, that's pretty likely.

Toady, send me the source code so I can keep it safe in case everything around where you live is destroyed. As completely programming-illiterate, I couldn't do anything with it besides stare in awe at the matrix-like nonsense because it's the source code to Dwarf Fortress.

Of course he'll survive.

And then he'll be the Road Warrior.

And then when he rebuilds society, he'll make a game about it.
