I thought Elves were cannibals.  That said, wouldn't they have an awful lot of Elf Bones and Elf Skulls to make stuff out of?

On the other hand, they do seem to show up with lots and lots of logs.  Do they give birth to wood, or just poop it out?  Or maybe they just ask the trees nicely for a few log-sized branches.  Or maybe they milk dryads.  I don't know.  I'm not an Elf (Armok be praised).

They rape the trees until the trees give them wood to make them stop.

Every now and then they try it with a Dryad, but unlike trees Dryads aren't willing to put up with that shit and usually react poorly. Sometimes the Dryad is as twisted as the Elf and then you get an unholy union the likes of which the world wishes it had never seen.

I figured it came from teh stick up their ass about cutting down trees.  The stick grows to a log and they pull it out of their ass and sell it to you.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

It's assumed that they have 'humane' tree-farms where trees are grown 'elf-kosher' as is the common term. But ya know what? If you go to a forest retreat, you see no such thing. Clearly, they just cut down trees and tell anyone else who does it they're immoral, and it's all a conspiracy to have a monopoly on wood exports.

Elves aren't hippies, they're the Lumberjack Mafia - all their ranting about tree-rights and whatnot is just a cover and pretense to justify their attacks and general anti-competition maneuvers.

Sort of like scientology - a scam in the guise of a reliGAHH! I'VE BEEN SHOT IN THE RIGHT ARM WITH A ☼MAPLE ARROW☼! IT IS SEVERED! MY SPLEEN IS PUNCTURED! MY THIRD TOE, LEFT FOOT IS BROKEN! MY EGO IS BRUISED!

if I pamper them enough

This was your first mistaken.

Your second mistake was not killing them as soon as they pulled up into your trade depot.

Elves getting owned in engravings? I've got plenty of that!

In my fort, an elf faction apparently had a civil war, with humorous results.
Check it out. (The third entry is my favorite.)

No, if he wants exotic pets, just buy any/all animals they bring, and little/nothing else, and spend the years that it takes to get breeding pairs of what you want building an elaborate death trap for once their usefulness has run out, or you get tired of waiting.

Clear glass can only be manufactured with sand and potash. Potash is made out of ash. Ash is made out of trees.

So, clear glass, and also crystal glass, is tree by-product and thus unethical. Not a bug.

You can offer them green glass products without trouble.

Is that confirmed? The wiki page on Trading says that while it was once believed elves refused only clear and crystal glass, they also refuse green glass even if it's made at a magma furnace (and thus doesn't even involve charcoal). Is this information in error?

Someone tell my elves that, as they accept my masterwork large green glass gems.

Maybe they count as Large Gems rather than glass products?

Try selling uncut green glass.
