I am yet to try selling only green glass products... I kinda need the elves for my wood supply since I'm in the middle of a Red Sand Desert with a grand total of 12 trees in a 4x4 site... When I stop needing more wood than the humans and dwarves bring me (which is soon, now that I've got enough beds and plenty of barrels/bins), I'll get down to experimenting some more.

The glass is produced using magma, so if they complain of wood, it should really only be due to the Pearlash - if they complain about green glass, they're prejudiced to to liquid alternative to fire, in which case I'd be honoured to formally introduce it to them.

As far as exotic animals go, so far they've brought me a Cougar and a Grizzly Bear. Not entirely exotic, but still, I can see my fortress defended by chained up grizzly bears, with a goblin pit full of cougars.

Not cougars. That's too nice.
I have a pit consisting of 1 Cyclops, 2 Beak Dogs, 10 Kobolds (all captured theives) and a skeletal dragon.
I can release them all at will with seperate levers for each

Buy wood, leave trade screen. Reenter trade screen, sell glass.

Yes, they will still come back next year. In fact, if you give them crazy profit margins (very easy) you can pretty much always do this without worrying.

hmm. I've actually applied that tactic in the past. :-\ So I should have thought of that.
Probably won't be able to try it out now though. Tantrum Spiral. And they destroyed my Trade Depot :(

I haven't tried in the more recent versions, but as recently as 40.d11 I was able to use green glass goblets to buy out almost every caravan that came by the first two or three years.

Elves didn't think twice about taking them. Of course, that meant that I wound up with massive elvish caravans every spring, which some people might not want. Thirty or forty logs coming in every spring tends to come in handy on a desert map though.

If green glass is indeed accepted by elves in 40d, then the wiki page on Trading needs to be updated. That page says that in 40d, all kinds of glass (not just green) are taboo.

We need to test glass and glass products. Not logical, but they might only accept one or the other.

It may be that the wood counts as a "hidden decoration" when it's turned into ashes -> potash -> pearlash -> glass. Would be interesting to try this with ashes from a dead fire man and see if it's rejected as an animal product, or with ashes from a glowing pit (which don't have any clear source.)

Heh...

"No! We can't take any product that you killed a tree to make! I'm insulted!"
"Oh it's fine, we just got these from hell."
"..."
"Oh come on, it doesn't even smell like the burnt elf bodies that were down there..."
