Journal of Urist McMean Jr4th Moonstone, 181, Early WinterWell, Naxza went and shot himself in the foot during shooting practice. That stupid mayor, Tekkud, doesn't think he can handle the responsibility, so he went and grabbed all the former leaders of Usanlolor.
Interestingly enough, me and Sythun are the only ones alive. And given Sythun's unsatisfactory half-year performance, I was given the job.
Good, maybe I can finally renovate my room.
Anyway, since Naxza didn't do a very good job detailing his projects, I'll just show a rough sketch of some of the newer stuff.
Under the false name of "Community Graveyard", he's built a giant mausoleum for himself. There's something like 50 coffins in there, but the black bronze (purple) one belongs to Naxza himself. Normally, I'd order him to starve in a pit just for that, but I've mellowed a bit since I retired.
There's also a ton of clothing, we need some more bins.
There's also plans for a new wing of bedrooms. I'll start digging, but the next guy can take care of furnishing it.
The tower's expanded to the twelfth level. It's really damn high now.
These could be nice for bone decorations or bolts. Since we're a bit low on marksdwarves, bolts they shall be.
9th MoonstoneThe goblins are sieging. There's been reports of cries of agony coming from the deepest parts of the fortress. (
OOC: Neruz, you have no well or alcohol. Every single dwarf down there is dehydrated. One just died of thirst.)
For now, drawbridges raised.
21st MoonstoneCerol, a woodburner, is being particularly secretive at a craftdwarf's workshop. He seems to be engraving some stone.
23rd MoonstoneAfter repeated complaints about the screams from deep within the fortress, I've organized a small group of miners to search for the source. I've heard tales of these pits of death back in the mountainhome. This mission is being conducted with utmost secrecy. I will let the miners die if need be.
24th MoonstoneAccording to reports, the source of the screams originated near where Neruz and several other miners were lost in a cave-in. They've been given permission to dig.
Also, Cerol has begun working on something. Lots of rocks, a piece of leather, and a few gems there. Not sure what he's planning.
25th MoonstoneThe miners discovered something... strange.
We've discovered the dead bodies of Neruz and the missing miners. Apparently that bastard has lived in this hole for over a year now. I can't understand why he'd do this. I understand that he's a selfish fool, but why would he lock himself in there?
1st OpalCerol made a pretty nice bracelet, apparently. I value it at around 24,000 dwarfbucks. For his useless waste of materials, I've sentenced him to lifetime stone detailing duty as well. (
OOC: Legendary Engraver).
We've buried Neruz. After going through his documents and performing some checks, we've determined the cause of death. Apparently, he used a cave-in as an excuse to relieve himself from his duty to the fort. He retired to a luxurious dungeon that he built using the fortress' efforts. Then, in one of the worst planning disasters I've ever seen, he forgot to build a well. After exhausting what little booze he stored, he died thirsty and alone.
He shall go down in history as one of the most foolish leaders we've ever had.
27th OpalI've very impressed with how our bridge made of water is holding the siegers at bay.
7th ObsidianGot tired of Stakud wanting to retrieve his sock or something that was outside the gate. Crushed the siege. Letting the dwarves out to clean up the traps a bit.
28th ObsidianMy temporary position as leader has ended, and here's my usual status report.
We finally accounted for all the missing dwarves this season. That puts us at 79 members. The fortress is doing all right. It's quite a mess though.
We've got a ton of things taking up room. We'll need to get rid of them.
When the elves come, trade whatever they'll take for some wood. We'll be need more wood fo bins.
When the humans come, show them how superior dwarves are and give them as much as they can take. Take everything.
Same with dwarves. Maybe offer some stuff, since we have so much of it.
The bedrooms are dug out, but need furniture. We're low on doors.
Overall, the fortress is in good shape. Plenty of food and workers. We're a bit low on space, but that's easy to fix.
One final word to my successor:
Rookie, if you want to live, read carefully. So far, every single leader who's wasted the entire year building his own little luxury mansion has
died. I suggest that you follow the footsteps of the ones that are still alive.
