I think In the OP you should Update the Starting list to display who's dead..then with every migrant wave, if anyones named have em marked like *Wave One, urist Mc1, Urist Mc2* *Wave 2* ect...

Be an intresting way to keep yourself busy Taco..

Aren't Rhesus Macaques actually whales?
They're actually a special ore. Instead of being mined, they're hunted from between the trees and instead of producing metal, they produce food: rhesus pieces.

Journal of ‘Sythun’, the Miner

1st of Granite
Well, journal, this past autumn taught a powerful life lesson: When the military fails, call in the miners! ‘DO NOT SEND ANYONE ELSE’ is the second part of the same lesson. Out leader Taco Dan decided to help me kill that undead yeti last year... with a copper crossbow. Guess who died? It seems that I have been chosen to run this place. Some emergency mayoral bullshit, I couldn’t care less. Time to check out the place.

P.S. What. The. Fuck. This place is falling apart! I can’t find any farms, and we are starving with 80 seeds in the goddamn stockpiles! I’ve been hauling ice for some reason, and the bedrooms are blocking the way deeper into the mountain! No crafts either. No ROCK. It looks like it’s up to me to break through the aquifer.

4th of Granite
Ugh, time for some reorganization. First on my agenda, give that useless peasant a pick. McMean or something is his name. I think he tried to refuse to help me or something, I really couldn’t hear him as I was hurling him by his pants into the shaft I was working on. I then swung my pick at the ground and imbedded it up to the shaft, next to his head. He stopped complaining.

I was in the process of making a farm for food. You know, the whole not-starving thing. There was some sand and soil to the north, so I dug a single tunnel up there, starting after the bedrooms.

17th of Granite
Tunnel is done. The farmer is working on some plots now. Maybe we won’t all starve after all.

I have begun digging for project “Gravity is My Friend.” It is really simple.
1. dig into the mountainside as high as possible. Do not dig into ice (IE: only soil)
2. make stairs all the way to the aquifer
3. dig around a 5x3 square of soil over the aquifer.
4. do Step 3 for every level between the aquifer and the surface. Leave one spot connected, creating a giant slab of rock hovering over the aquifer.
5. channel a 5x3 square right above the aquifer, exposing it.
6. Release slab.
7. Slab falls down and lands on the bottom of the aquifer. Build stairs in the new tunnel.
8. Mine lots of rock.
9. ???
10. Profit!

EDIT: Another sasquatch? Fuck. This could make the tunneling interesting.

19th of Granite
The first plump helmet is planted! No more starving for us! The sasquatch is still out there, but it is just staying away from us, which is good. I’ve switched the entrance to my project inside for safety. I am currently enlarging the hallway to the farm, so the project will have to wait for a day or two.

I will also add a separate room for the stills and separate storage for booze and food, adjacent to the farm.

24th of Granite
The extra rooms are done. I have switched the piles to make things more organized. I will now begin my project. I will do nothing but mine. NOTHING.

I WANT ROCK.

27th of Granite
Project is go! We also ran out of food two days ago. I am hungry.

4th of Slate
The farmer and the bowyer have gotten married. I didn’t see the ceremony, I was busy WORKING.

21st of Slate
I don’t have much time to write this, I am afraid. I need to go pick up my war hammer before hunting down that sasquatch. It stopped hiding around the edge of the territory and brutally murdered McMean in a flash. The ice will be red for years. Then it chased our farmer around for days before the poor dwarf could return to the outpost. Then I drafted myself.

Time to give our crafters something to work with.

22nd of Slate
((The page has wet fingerprints all over it))
Fucking coward. The bastard ran away after its kill. I couldn’t catch it before it disappeared into the snow storms.

On a happier note: Migrants!
2 woodworkers
1 blacksmith
1 jeweler
2 craftdwarves
4 peasants
2 farmers

Most will have labor changes, except for the cook and the blacksmith. First, I threw picks at one of the peasants. Then I took the glassmaker and told him to help the mason smooth the ice in the fort. The cook and the tanner will help till the fields. Everyone else… not sure. I will let them haul until I find jobs for them.

I will mine new bedrooms to train the new miner and the carpenter.

*More to come.*

Wow. I had no clue the skeleton yeti got McMean until i got the message in purple. 100fps has its problems :/

Jeez, that's half the starting 7 already.

Also I believe we lost our appraiser :S

Oh well, I'll just grab one of the migrants and name him "Urist McMean Jr." or something

25th of Felsite
Amrok damn it! The undead sasquatch is back. Everyone is going to stay inside, while me and a peasant kill it. The peasant seems a little too happy about it. Something about us being ‘mining buddies’afterwards. I’ll make sure to be behind him when it attacks.

27th of Felsite
We caught the sasquatch on a large glacial plain. The Sasquatch charged, and got its right arm lopped of by my ‘mining buddy’. The shock of the impact stunned the peasant, and I promptly bashed the monster to bits as it stared at its missing arm. We returned as heros.

I hinted to the trader to not inquire about trading for picks with the next caravan rather forcibly. I do not need any more mining buddies.

23rd of Hematite
All attempts to break through the aquifer have failed. If the water is exposed to the freezing temperatures outside, a new cap of ice just freezes over it! I will try my soil-dropper idea once more before I call it a failure.

25th of Hematite
I’ve decided to fix the unemployment problem with some smoothing. All the unworked dwarves will smooth the fortress. The whole thing.

16th of Malachite
Another Sasquatch. Yipee. How many of them are there?

18th of Malachite
Ignoring the undead, the second attempt to break through the aquifer is going well. I will expose the water to the outside, and then tunnel through it, instead of staring at it in horror.

13th of Galena
The freezing is going well, but the Sasquatch now walks ON TOP of our fortress. It is only a matter of time until it kills someone, so I am going to go and kill it… again.

17th of Galena
More bones crafts are being made as I right this. The deep slash in my leg throbs horribly, but I don’t care. The battle was epic with the fourth Skeletal Sasquatch. I smashed it’s left arm and right leg of with the same hit, I have no idea how. I then send it’s lifeless… its MORE lifeless corpse flying the same distance as the main hall!

1st of Limestone
We are out of Booze! I thought that we could drink from the river, but it is perpetually frozen. After seeing all the dehydrated people around me as I rested, I told the farmer to brew as much as he can. The other two can keep farming. We all are waiting for the caravan to arrive.

Don't worry, unless the fortress is in complete shambles by the time I get to it, I'll defiinitely break through.
