To be fair, if you count the people working on graphical tweaks as well, it could be considered a team.

There are two names metionned in the Dwarf Fortress main menue but team could be better replaced with Bros (Dothey say "bros" in Scotland?).

 I appreciate the fact that they use the image that is not horribly outdated, if only because nothing much has changed on that particular screen. Better than the 2D screenshots.

To be fair, if you didn't actually spend time on the main site, you wouldn't believe the game was created by one guy and occasional consultation with his brother.

Actually, yeah.  People don't often do "malicious' (I guess you could call it) trolling, we really don't often have flamewars, those normally only pop up when a discussion about religion or spore come up, we don't have enough banning for there to be a ban list*, and people seem to get along fairly well most of the time.  Most of the time.  More than can be said for larger forums, really. 

*On Something Awful new people looking to get into the goon squad in WoW will sometimes be told to do something that will certainly get them banned.  Some spend a lot of money trying to do this.

I get the feeling this reviewer actually played the game for fun instead of just trying to get a quick "playthrough" so they could review it. Which is so very rare. And good.

And yeah, by general internet standards we have a very calm community for one this size. It's been said before, but it's probably because stupid people can't brave DFs learning curve to begin with...

Hehe, I just looked through one of the religion threads. It was actually fairly civil. The worst it got was name-calling.

It's fairly obvious he hasn't been playing for long:

Carpenters don't make wooden trinkets. And wasting precious wood on tables chairs (and trinkets, for that matter) which can equally easily be made with stone?

If there's no river or brook nearby, then dwarven dehydration becomes a distinct possibility.

As you colony grows, it quickly becomes a juggling act trying to keep everyone safe from harm, especially as you have to keep an eye on dwindling stock and provide everyone with jobs.

Safe from harm, we have to do that? Dwindling stock? Jobs?

But still, mainstream recognition is always nice to have.

That aside, their mods are fun and vulgar. Our mods are fun and civil. And apparently demigods. Toady created DF, Kurtulmak is essentially the god of Kobolds, and ThreeToe is.. ... Well, I'm not sure what ThreeToe is, but whatever he is, it has three toes.

EDIT: Ye gods, their Religion thread. It appalls me. There's so much jerkassness and hostility in there. Also, the one or two posters standing up for Religion didn't make it any better, seeing as one was very mild and therefore unsuited for a discussion at that temperature, and the other one was apparently immune to debate.

FURTHER EDIT: I just realized that the only troll I've ever seen was in the Nist Akath thread.
