"Looney Tunes" style traps!
« on: August 14, 2009, 05:51:24 pm »

Okay, I decided to make a "comical" fortress. One with every kind of ridiculous booby-trap (that hasn't been used yet."

Then, I was thinking, why not make Looney Toons traps? You know, the Wilde E. Coyote vs. Roadrunner type thing. Falling anvils, absurdly complicated mechanisms, explosions, ect.

A few ideas:

-Falling anvil traps. I could either have an anvil on a retractable bridge, or (tell me if this will work) making a modded Stone Fall trap to be loaded with anvils.

-A water slide into a room full of weapon traps.

-Completely "overkill" pitfall traps.

-Burning lignite/Booze explosions!

Any more ideas?

While this stuff will all be possible eventually, currently it won't work. Slides don't function right, anvils don't damage what they fall on, and while the lignite will burn them, boozesplosions just look pretty. The pitfall will work though. Don't fuck with gravity, seriously.

Bridgeapults into/off of cliffs. One tile wide pits filled with fifty cougars or alligators or sharks.

I like retracting bridges under the feet of enemies and into deep pits. The suddenness is cartoony.

The anvil trap might work with a bit of modding, substituting anvils for rocks. I wouldn't know how to do this though.

You'd have better luck modifying a ranged weapon to fire anvils, and loading it into a weapon trap.

Mod in a new type of stone called "Anvilium", which produces stones called "anvils".

Edit: Add this to matgloss_stone_mineral.txt and regen:

Code: [Select]
[MATGLOSS_STONE:ANVILIUM]
[NAME:anvilium][COLOR:0:7:1][TILE:229]
[STONE_NAME:large anvil]
[ENVIRONMENT:ALL_STONE:CLUSTER:100]
[ITEM_SYMBOL:229]
[SOLID_DENSITY:7850]

I vote for this Option..Preferibly a Catapult

You could also make a Ballista that fire's live Coyotes, or other animal's of your choice.

Goblin Leader: Why! Puny Balista! They are Nothing!
Goblin: No sir! Incomming FLYING ELEPHANTS!

He's talking about technical limitation, not etiquette. There's simply no way to do that.

Catapults and ballistae are hardcoded, but as far as I know you can mod ranged weapons like bows and stuff. However, I have no idea if it would work.

Well, yes, but Bridgeapult only works with creatures. Items will be destroyed or they stay on the ground, I'm not entirely sure.
Bridgeapulting creatures (or rather: the landing) only hurts the creature that got bridgeapulted and only if it lands on the ground. If it lands on another creature, both of them remain unharmed.
Edit: Someone should try bridgeapulting your champion on top of a goblin siege.
Gobbo1: It's a bird!
Gobbo2: It's a plane!
Gobbo3: No, it's a dwarven champi... *death* *flying bodyparts* *gore*
