Multigrasp
« on: August 14, 2009, 02:16:06 pm »

I noticed an iron halberd and mauls got multigrasp when i am not wearing a shield. What effect does this have? faster attack rate? bigger damage?  what skill do i use to block if i got only a weapon with multigrasp ? (guessing that shield skill is useless as this point...) can an attack be block only with weapon ?

Your skill in the weapon enables parries if you are not using a shield. I've parried attacks (even crossbow bolts) with a short sword, and I don't see how using a maul would be any different with DF logic.

No idea what advantage a multigrasp has over single grasp tho, maybe less chance to lose control of the weapon?

Probably gives the weapon more punch. Two arms could allow you to double your attack power, especially if you use leverage with the two hands.

Using a two-handed weapon without two hands?  roll/2.

The combat "rolls" mae during combat can be found here:

I think the multi-grasp adds to the strength part of that equation, but thats just a guess.

So knowing that it gives you a lot more damage would you give up your shield for this ?

I wouldn't. Shields can on occasion deflect dragonfire, arrows, and crossbow bolts. Being hit by any one of those is pretty much a death sentence unless you're close to the attacker.

So shields, for the win.

You can parry arrows/bolts from a distance, not sure about dragonfire but I wouldn't put it past the game.

Can it be parried though?

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

I dunno, parrying dragon fire seems an awful lot like trying to parry a waterfall or something. Maybe you can redirect it with the flat of your sword?

I should make an epiclly good swordsman with no shield skill and see how he does.

Parrying dragonfire with a sword sounds incredibly awesome.
Also, can't you wield any weapon in one hand as an adventurer?

Most weapons can be weilded one handed if you are big enough. Dwarves weild some one handed weapons two handed however as they are shorter.

Since you can explode giants with thrown pebbles I'm going to say that parrying fire is just the kind of wire-fu badassery that DF adventurers get up to.
